FILIPINA PR TEAM CHIEF MEETS WITH INCOMING ROTARY PREXY: As you are reading this, Filipina Lyne Abanilla and the public relations team that she formed to assist her in her job as the Rotary International (RI) Public Imaging Coordinator for the Pacific, shall have already concluded their once-in-a-lifetime exclusive “one-on-one” and face-to-face-getting-to-know-you meeting with RI President Elect (RIPE) Kalyan Banerjee at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Ortigas Center, Pasig City, Wednesday, 1 December 2010.

Yes, you guessed it right---the RIPE asked for the meeting, and Lyne (who is the vice president for classified ads of Manila Bulletin and a past governor of RI District 3810) obviously was not given the option to refuse the meeting, considering the evident importance that the RIPE is giving to public imaging during his own term (2011-2012).

Why the meeting? So Kalyan will have an opportunity to see for himself and meet personally the PR group that Lyne created and which she is now leading and which, from all indications, was the reason RI leaders named her as the PR chairman for RI’s Zone 7 (the Philippines and Indonesia) for three consecutive years (RY 2007-2008, RY 2008-2009 and RY 2009-2010), and then installed her as PR chief for RI’s Pacific Zone (for RY 2010-2011), that’s why.

RI’s Pacific Zone, if you don’t know, is actually one of the six zones of Rotary International, when it comes to public relations or public imaging. It covers the Philippines, Indonesia, Australia and New Zealand and all the other exotic islands in the Pacific Ocean, so you see how big Lyne’s job really is. Read more of this next issue, God willing.

“GOLDEN RULE” AT THE COMELEC? If I am one of the commissioners still sitting at the Commission on Elections today, I would not only shrink in shame, but I will immediately resign my position.

This is in consideration of the outburst of President Aquino Tuesday, November 30, 2010, reported in the Philippine Star, where he was quoted as saying that he wanted the new chairman that will replace resigned Jose A. R. Melo to come from outside of the poll body because of his bad experience with the present commissioners as a presidential candidate last May.

Indeed, except for one or two officials of the poll body, almost all of those who have been running the agency for quite a number of years now have very bad reputations, rightly or wrongly, especially in resolving petitions or cases involving party lists and local candidates, where it is said that the “golden rule” seems to be their rule of thumb.

I am sure  though there are still honest officials in the body who can be tapped to head it after Melo. Selecting someone from inside Comelec to become its chairman is one way of providing incentive to those working there that good performance can still have its rewards.

“Golden rule” sa Comelec? Rotary prez at Phl PR team
