Agolong guarantees full-blown media coverage for Palaro
by Tyrone Jay V. Samson

To ensure that the Palarong Pambansa in Dapitan City will get maximum media exposure, not only in Zanorte and Mindanao but all throughout the country, the Committee on Promotions, Communications and Information headed by Dapitan City Councilor Apple Marie Agolong has recently announced that it already has contacted local newspapers in Mindanao not to mention national media entities from all over the country.

“I was able to talk to the different media groups from Cotabato, General Santos, Davao, Cagayan, Zamboanga Peninsula, Cebu, Dumaguete, Bohol and writers from various leading national newspapers in the country. I’m happy to say that I have convinced them to cover the Palarong Pambansa 2011 here in Dapitan,” Agolong said.

According to the lawmaker, the media people she was able to contact are all “too willing to come to Dapitan and are just standing by pending the arrival of athlete delegations starting the late part of this month.

Moreover, Agolong also disclosed that she was able to convince and commissioned ABS-CBN Northern Mindanao to do “plugging” by way of news and bullet reminders of the event in their afternoon programs. And that thus far, the media conglomerate has aired “around four to five news stories already in Northern Mindanao.”

“ABSCBN will begin its extensive plugging two weeks before the opening in all the 18 stations around the country,” Agolong made such guarantee in the same interview.

She also revealed that UNTV, dubbed Your Public Service Channel, is a UHF television channel devoted to the enrichment of life through alternative yet intelligent programs that aims to delight and turn the much-needed shift in Filipino’s television lifestyle. Just recently, UNTVweb.com scooped the Most Popular Website of the Year and People's Choice award in its category from the Philippine Web Awards.

As for print media, Agolong disclosed that Palaro press releases are published in regional and national newspapers like Business Week Mindanao, Mindanao Examiner, Mindanao Goldstar, Pagadian Express, Kotawato Express, Manila Bulletin, Philippine Star, Sunstar Davao, among others.

Also, Agolong’s committee is able to reach out to internet new agencies including those mentioned in the preceding paragraph and also Batas Internet TV to do coverage of the Palaro 2011.

“Atty. Mel Mauricio has always been very supportive to all the press releases which my office had sent to his email and all of such were able to land a space in his column,” Agolong said. “I have entertained groups of media men from different places just for them to see Dapitan City as the venue of Palaro and the facilities which the athletes may see while they are here.

An added leverage, Agolong said, is the fact that the Publishers Association of the Philippines' 15th National Congress was held here in Dapitan last December and all the delegates were “well entertained and were already told in advance that the Palaro will be held here in Dapitan City.”

Thus far, among neighboring media entities which have visited Dapitan include the Pagadian Media, which was here for two days, and the Zamboanga Peninsula Media, also for two days.
