FAST FOOD PRODUCTS SHOULD BE AVOIDED: This is now the third installment of Dr. Gary Sy’s Facebook article “Foods that should be avoided this Christmas.” Read on for better health: “Fats---food that is rich in fats should be avoided. Foods high in fat are as follows: fats and oils, like margarine, butter, lard, salt pork, meat drippings, gravy.

“Cream, ice cream, whole milk, most pies, pastries, cakes, most cheeses (like cream cheese, cheddar cheese), many snack foods (like nuts and chips), fatty meats like corned beef, regular ground beef, ribs, sausage, hot dogs, bacon, bologna, salami, fried foods like French fries and fried chicken, most cookies contain high fat content, and many fast foods are also rich in fats.

“Caffeine intake: the evidence from the literature is rather conflicting and the effects of caffeine seem to depend on multiple variables such as daily dose, preexisting Blood pressure and coffee drinking habits….” More to follow.

CANADIANS SEPTUAGENARIANS SHARE MILLIONS IN LOTTO WINNINGS: Allen and Violet Large, septuagenarians from Canada, are more likely to spend the rest of eternity with God now, after they shared with others 98 percent or so of the US$11 million that they won from a Canadian lottery in July 2010.

“The money was a headache,” the couple told reporters, and so they decided to give up almost all of it to family members, and then “to groups they had decided on, including the local fire department, churches, cemeteries, the Red Cross, the Salvation Army, hospitals in Truro and Halifax and organizations that fight cancer, Alzheimer's and diabetes,” Yahoo reported.

Indeed, what better way is there to show compliance with the command of the Lord Jesus Christ “to love our fellowmen as we love ourselves” than to share what we have with the needy and the less fortunate, as what Allen and Violet did? If we say we are followers of God and yet do not share our bounty with others, are we really His followers?

WILL TRAVEL OF CONGRESSMEN TO WATCH PACQUIAO FIGHT MAKE PINOYS HAPPY? What is it to us if 54 or more of our congressmen from the House of Representatives would be flying to the United States to watch the November 13, 2010 unprecedented and historic fight of Sarangani Representative and people’ champ Manny Pacquiao against Antonio Margarito?

Nothing, if we believe that these lawmakers and their relatives and associates traveling with them will be spending their own money. Plenty, if it is government money they will use.

But over and above the money, would not this travel in horde of our lawmakers work to confirm once more the yawning gap between the haves and the have-nots, and the privileged and the underprivileged, and the rich and the poor classes in Philippine society? Would this travel make ordinary Filipinos happy with their lawmakers?
