MERIDIAN VOLUNTARILY PULLS OUT OF LA TRINIDAD

 

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet—The Meridien Vista Gaming Corporation (MVGC), operators for Jai Alai betting stations in the municipality has voluntarily closed its betting stations over the week.

 

On January 11, 2011, Mayor Gregorio Abalos Jr., has issued a cease and desist order against the MVGC to stop betting collections as their business permits were not renewed by the municipality.

 

However, representatives of MVGC manning two betting stations along  Balili however refused to receive the notice as witnessed by Delmas Allan, barangay kagawad of Balili barangay. (continue)

RED CROSS WILL ALWAYS BE AN AUXILIARY TO GOV’T DURING DISASTERS-GORDON

 

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet—“It is our business to help the indigent and those in need”.

 

This according to former Sen. Richard Gordon, chairman of the Philippine Red Cross in a press conference over the week.

 

“Nobody should be rejected”, according to him, adding, the PRC will always play an auxiliary role in helping the government in terms of disasters and when needed. (continue)

UPLAND DEVELOPMENT PROJECT BENEFITS 7000 FAMILIES IN CAR

BAGUIO CITY – The Upland Development Project (UDP) of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR)  is benefitting  7,000 poor families in the region.

 

This was bared by DENR Regional Director Clarence Baguilat during radio interview over DZEQ Radyo ng Bayan.  He said a total of 7,000 farmer-beneficiaries were able to avail of the financial assistance extended under the UDP in support of the government's hunger mitigation program. (continue)

DA LAUNCHES 2 MORE BRGY BAGSAKAN PROJECTS IN KALINGA

TABUK, Kalinga – The Department of Agriculture (DA) launched two more  barangay bagsakan projects in the province, bringing to 16 the total number of  bagsakan projects  established in Kalinga, under DA’s Accelerated Hunger Mitigation Program.

 

Barangay Madopdop-Casigayan of Tabuk and Pasil municipality join the list of bagsakan project recipients  this year. 

 

 Project In-charge Terresita Desay of the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPAG) reported these are  part of the five  carry-over projects of DA in 2010 for implementation  this 2011.

The  two  remaining bagsakan projects allotted for Kalinga this year are intended for the barangays of Cawagayan  in Tabuk  and Liwan West in  Rizal.(continue)

BURGOS TOWN COUNCILOR SHOT DEAD

VIGAN CITY, Ilocos Sur - - Local officials and family are mourning the death of Councilor Delfin D. Escobar Jr of Burgos, Ilocos Sur after he was shot by unidentified motor riding gunman beside the national highway in Barangay San Jose, Narvacan, Ilocos Sur at about 7:15 last Tuesday morning (Jan 18).

 

He died a few hours after he was confined in a hospital.

 

According to Ilocos Sur police director Sr. Supt. Eduardo Dopale, the victim had just alighted from his vehicle to seek assistance from a vulcanizing shop for a tire when the gunman, who came behind, shot him once with Caliber .45 pistol based on the recovered empty shell at the crime scene. (continue)

ILOCOS NORTE TASK FORCE GAINS GROUND ON WAR AGAINST PRIVATE ARMIES

LAOAG CITY – The task force against private armed groups has gained ground in its war against organized crimes with the identification of individuals who are allegedly engaged in contract killings.

MOPRECO GRANTS 5% DISCOUNT ON ELECTRIC BILL OF SENIOR CITIZENS

BONTOC, Mt. Province – The Mt. Province Electric Cooperative, Inc. (MOPRECO)  recently issued an advisory  to  all qualified residential senior citizens member consumers  and subsidizing end users that the coop is  now accepting their  application  to avail of the five  percent discount on electricity bill.

 

This is in compliance to Republic Act N0. 9994 otherwise known as the “Expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2010,” particularly Sections 4 and 5.  (continue)

PHILIPPINE RED CROSS TURNS OVER 250 FULL SHELTERS AND 316 REPAIR KITS TO PEPENG VICTIMS IN BENGUET

 

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet— The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) has turned over full hundred of shelters (houses) and repair kits to victims of typhoon Pepeng over the week.

 

The ceremonial turnover of transitional shelters was held on January 18, 2011, at the provincial gymnasium at the Benguet Capitol.

 

The transitional shelter project was funded by the Swiss and German Red Cross. (continue)

FORMER REBEL NOW MAYOR WANTS TWO POINT AGENDA INCLUDED IN DRAFT AUTONOMY; MP SK SUPPORTS AUTONOMY

 

I WILL only support the draft autonomy if two major points are included in the draft, this according to Sadanga, Mt. Province Mayor Gabino Gangganan in an interview with karitoon.com.

 

Ganggangan, former secretary-general of the Cordillera People’s Liberation Army (CPLA) said, the Cordillera draft autonomy must include the control over strategic natural resources and the inclusion of a regional security force. (continue)
