BICOLANOS TO RECEIVE AWARDS

“2nd Orgullo Kan Bikol Awards” to be held at Marriott Hotel

        The Faithful Heroes Shining Times, Inc., headed by Antonio Aguilar Medina, will hold  the “2nd Orgullo Kan Bikol Awards” on January 27, 20ll at the Marriott Hotel in Pasay City. The first “Orgullo Kan Bikol Awards” were given on February 7, 2007 at the historic Manila Hotel.  The awards are  given to Bicolanos who have given  pride and honor to Bicolandia.  Awards night will open at 5 p.m. with the cutting of the ceremonial ribbon opening  the “Handog” exhibit of Bicol artist Pancho Piano.

      Special guests of honor are Vice President Jejomar Binay and DILG Secretary Jesse Robredo.  Emcees are  Chiqui Roa-Puno, John Arcilla and

Ronald Rodriguez.

     The new  awardees will be  led by  Secretary of Justice Leila De Lima of Iriga City, Congressman Salvador “Sonny” Escudero of Sorsogon and Camarines Sur Gov. Luis Raymond “Lray” Villafuerte.        

     Other awardees are:  For Albay: Congressman Fernando Gonzalez - philanthropy & government service; Mr. Dante Jimenez, non-government organization;  Ms. Boots Anson Roa – film & entertainment; Ms. Jeannie M. Goulbourn - fashion design, Health & Wellness and Cong. Francis “Al” Bichara – government service.

               For Camarines Norte: Bishop Emeritus Nestor Cariño, eclesial affairs and pastoral work and Congressman Elmer Panotes - local governance.  For Camarines Sur: Pancho Mistula  Piano - visual arts;  Lyne Abanilla - Media / Rotary  International/Physicians for Peace; and  Justice Noel Tijam – judiciary. 

               For Catanduanes : Bro. Mariano “Mike” Z. Velarde - lay apostolate and Capt. Leopoldo Arcilla - OFW & entrepreneurship.  For Masbate: Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Deputy Governor Nestor “Nesting” Espenilla, Jr.  - government banking; Ambassador Antonio Villamor - foreign service and Justice Monina Señarosa – judiciary. 

                   For Sorsogon: Dr. Martha Alegre-Mogul – education; and Imelda Nicolas, presidential assistant for OFW Affairs with cabinet rank.  Special citations will be given to the following: Dr. Lucio Tan - philanthropy & business; Legazpi  Bishop Joel Baylon - religious leadership and pastoral work; and  Naga Archbishop Leonardo Z. Legaspi - religious leadership and pastoral work.   The late Sen. Raul Roco  will be given  given a Posthumous Award to  be received by Ms. Sonia Roco.  Bb. Pilipinas Universe  Venus Raj will receive a very special citation for giving honor and pride to Bicolandia and the country.

                 Retired  Supreme Court Justice Leonardo A. Quisumbing chairs the awards selection committee and co-chaired by Lt. Gen. (Ret.) Salvador Mison of the Metro Manila Devotees of Our Lady of Peñafrancia Foundation, Inc. The Bicol Heritage Singers, tenor Frank Aseniero and soprano Florence Aguilar will perform. Proceeds of the awards-concert will go to the Mumho Fund (Pondo Masbateño), Masbate Children Center and repair of Bicol churches, particularly the Sts. Peter & Paul Parish in Uson, Masbate.
