Mayor’s aunt is new Liga head

ROXAS City — The aunt of Mayor Angel Alan Celino was elected as the new president of the Liga ng mga Barangay here yesterday.

San Jose Barangay Captain Maria Celino-Capapas defeated her lone opponent Mongpong Barangay Captain Wilson Acervo by 14 votes.

Acervo was the outgoing Liga president. He sought reelection in the recent barangay polls under the Ugyon Kita Capiz.

Only 46 out of 47 barangay captains cast their votes. Barangay 4 Captain Noel Agaipto was absent.

Capapas vowed to support her fellow barangay officials through project implementation.

Through the mayor, barangay officials are assured of support from the city government, she said.
Capapas’ running mate Tiza Barangay Captain Alfredo Albaladejo was elected vice president, while Bolo Barangay Captain Montano Ibañez was the new auditor.

* Nelson Vidal of Brgy. 11
* Virgilio Santos Jr. of Brgy. Talon
* Deolito Agana of Brgy. 8

Kin shocked of rebel’s death

ROXAS City — The family of Rodimel Francisco, the rebel killed during the recent encounter of the New People’s Army (NPA) with elements of the Philippine Army’s 61st Infantry Battalion, was shocked upon learning about his death.

A certain Emma said she was shocked that her 22-year-old nephew was the lone fatality in the encounter in Sitio Lunok, Brgy. Lantangan, Pontevedra, Capiz.

Francisco left their house in Sitio Pook, Brgy. Culasi here a few months ago, according to Emma.

The family did not know that he was a member of the NPA, she said.

Angelina, Francisco’s mother, said her son was working in Iloilo City for about a month.
Francisco did not reveal that he will join the rebels, she said.

Before he left home, Angelina said, the victim was selling fish and working as contractual helper.

Before the incident, Francisco promised to return home, Angelina said.

She said she did not expect her son to arrive home dead.

Francisco succumbed to several gunshot wounds inflicted by an M16 armalite rifle, based on the autopsy conducted by the Philippine National Police Crime Laboratory in Camp Delgado, Iloilo City.

His remains are currently laid in Brgy. Culasi here./PN

Criminology student commits suicide

ROXAS City — For still unidentified reasons, a criminology student here committed suicide.

Police identified the victim as 17-year-old Sonny Aldea of Brgy. Maskarao, Jamindan, Capiz.

A caretaker of their house found Aldea’s body hanging on the ceiling with a nylon rope tied around the neck, police said.

Found near the victim was a picture of his girlfriend, said the police.

Aldea has been uneasy for the past days, according to a family member, police said. (Felipe Celino/PN)
