LP bets for SK, Liga chairs in Panitan win

ROXAS City — Liberal Party (LP) candidates for the respective chairs of the Liga ng mga Barangay and the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Municipal Federation in Panitan, Capiz won the elections recently.

Balatucan Barangay Captain Lilia Demalata was elected as Liga president.

Out of the 26 village chiefs in Panitan, Demalata got 14 votes against her lone opponent Calaan Barangay Captain Jose Lucis who only got 11 votes.

Demalata’s running mate for vice president, Bangaan Barangay Captain Efren Dangan won over his lone opponent Ricardo Dorado.

Lucis and Dorado were backed by Panitan Mayor Katherine Dequiña-Belo of the Ugyon Kita Capiz (UKC).

Barangay Captain Mercedes Dorado, also of LP, won over Poblacion Ilaya Barangay Captain Elmer Distor for auditor.

Dorado got 13 votes against Distor with only 10 votes.

Elected as members of the board of directors were Barangay captains Jose Jovy Bibit of Enseñagan, Edmundo Dorado of Salocon, Leodegario Deocampo of Capagao, Mario Delfin of Concencia, Jerome Degoma of Cadio, Liberato Degones Jr. of Timpas, Freddie Detablan of Cabugao and Freddie dela Rosa of Tabuc Norte.

On the other hand, SK Chair Ma. Krystel Deocampo won as the town’s Sangguniang Bayan (SB) ex-officio member for defeating lone opponent Leah Jade Alba.

Deocampo got 16 votes as against Alba who only got 10 votes during the December 3 election.

Many residents of Panitan were surprised during the Liga election upon seeing truck loads of police coming from the Capiz Police Provincial Office (CPPO).

Police forces were deployed to preempt any untoward incident and to oversee the Liga election, said a source./PN
Truck plows store, kills 56-year-old

ROXAS City —A 56-year-old man died after a truck plowed his grocery store in President Roxas, Capiz.

Roger Villanueva, the victim, was a resident of Sitio Landing, Brgy. San Nicolas, Pilar, Capiz, police said.

The truck driven by Janle Dangcalan, 32, of Brgy. Viscaya, President Roxas, Capiz accidentally hit a grocery store, inside of which was owner Villanueva, according to the police.

Dangcalan lost control of the speeding truck, the police said.

Villanueva was rushed to the hospital but the attending physician declared him dead on arrival.

The suspect, who is facing multiple charges, surrendered to the Pilar police after the incident.

In another story, two brothers were hurt when a passenger jeepney plowed their house in Dumalag, Capiz recently.

The victims were one-year-old Virgil Famo and his three-year-old brother Christian Famo — both of Brgy. San Jose of the same town, police said.

Police reports said the jeepney lost its break.

It subsequently hit the house of Sherly Famo, mother of the victims, along the national highway.

The Famo brothers sustained several injuries and are currently confined in a hospital here./PN
