ROXAS City — Two persons died during the flood that affected 108 barangays in Capiz. The flooding started Wednesday last week.

The fatalities were 10-year-old Gregy delos Santos and 15-year-old Richard Diestro, according to retired Supt. Jose Daradar, chief of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (PDRRMC).

Santos was a resident of Brgy. Dapdapan, Sapian town while Diestro was from Brgy. Tabuc Sur, Panitan town.

Delos Santos got drowned after he accidentally fell into the Dapdapan River while crossing the footbridge.

Diestro also got drowned when he attempted to cross the Panay River in Panitan.

The towns affected by the flood were: Pontevedra, Panay, Panit-an, Maayon, Sigma, Mambusao, Dumarao, Jamindan, Tapaz, Cuartero and Dao.

Thirteen barangays in Panay were submerged in water, Daradar said.

The same is true to eight barangays in Pontevedra where 66 families were transferred to two evacuation centers there.

About 18 barangays in Panitan, where 399 families were affected, remained submerged in flood water.
Also “underwater” were 20 barangays in Dao, seven in Maayon and 15 in Sigma with 1,053 families were rescued.

Fifteen barangays in Mambusao were submerged in water with 1,844 families affected; seven in Cuartero; eight in Jamindan; and two in Tapaz.

Daradar advised the public that the road in Brgy. Agkilo, Panitan — where a Ceres bus was stranded due to flood — is not anymore passable for any vehicle./PN

In-laws die in shooting, stabbing

BY FELIPE V. CELINO

ROXAS City — Two in-laws died after shooting and stabbing one another in Brgy. Tacas, Pontevedra, Capiz.

Nobody stopped Joselito Bernales, 48, from shooting Ricardo Magsila Jr., according to Pontevedra Sangguniang Bayan member Allan Catalan.

Bernales shot Magsila, 63, using a .9mm pistol. Magsila also shot Bernales, police said.

Catalan said Bernales also stabbed Magsila, which allegedly caused the latter’s death.

Bernales succumbed to fatal gunshot wounds while Magsila succumbed to multiple stab wounds, said the police.

The two died upon arrival at the Bailan District Hospital in Brgy. Bailan, Pontevedra, said SPO1 Fernando Marquez of the Pontevedra police station.

Old grudges may have been the motive behind the incident, Marquez said.

The in-laws were under the influence of liquor during the incident, he said.

Recovered from the crime scene were 11 empty shells of .9mm pistol, except for the gun and the knife that Bernales and Magsila used, police said./PN
