Man stabs, hacks brod for ‘killing’ Ma

ROXAS City — A 64-year-old farmer died after his brother stabbed and hacked him in Jamindan, Capiz recently.

Leon Vergara of Sitio Agsasaging, Brgy. Lucero, Jamindan, succumbed to a hack wound on the stomach, allegedly inflicted by his younger brother Exequiel, police said.

He also sustained stab wounds on the face, said the police.

The suspect, police said, earlier got angry with the victim for having been a suspect in the killing of their mother a few months ago.

The two met in a wake of their relative. Exequiel was alarmed of Vergara’s presence, took a bolo and attacked the victim.

Not contented, he took a knife and stabbed him on the face, according to the police.
Exequiel surrendered to the Jamindan police after the incident.

Meanwhile, one died while another got injured when the motorcycle they were riding accidentally turned-turtle in Brgy. Pani-an Balasan, Iloilo.

A certain “Jojo” died on the spot while motorcycle driver Rafael Soriaga, 26, of Brgy. España, Romblon province is currently confined in a hospital./PN

11-yr-old boy drowns

ROXAS City — An 11-year-old boy got drown while bathing in a beach in Brgy. Baybay here on Sunday.

The Philippine Coast Guard recovered the body of Jason Cornel after more than an hour of search operations.

Police said the victim, a resident of Brgy. Banica here, might have been swept by a strong wave. His mouth was bleeding.

Reports said Cornel, together with his grandmother and friends, went swimming without the knowledge of his mother.

Cornel, a Grade 5 pupil of the Plaridel East Elementary School, did not know how to swim, police said.

18th ‘most wanted’ nabbed

ROXAS City — Authorities recently arrested the 18th most wanted man in Jamindan, Capiz.

Tomas Escala did not resist arrest on Sunday. He is currently facing rape, frustrated homicide and estafa charges.

According to PO2 Elvies Villasis, officer-on-case, the suspect is charged for four counts of rape in 2009, frustrated homicide in 2002 and estafa in 2008.

The charges were all filed at the Hall of Justice in Mambusao, Capiz.

Escala was nabbed with the help of some members of the Philippine Army and barangay officials of Brgy. Jaena Norte, Jamindan.

He is currently detained in the lockup cell of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology. (Felipe Celino/PN



   


CPPO holds ‘Padyak para sa KKK’

ROXAS City — The Capiz Police Provincial Office (CPPO) conducted an event dubbed Padyak para sa KKK here on Sunday.

KKK stood for kalusugan (health), kapayapaan (peace) at kalikasan (environment).

About 150 participants, mainly composed of members of the Roxas City Bikers Association, Ivisan Bikers Association and personnel of the CPPO and the Roxas City Police Station, joined in the activity.

It started with a short program at the Roxas City Public Plaza.

Senior Supt. Renato Gumban, CPPO director, said the event aimed to foster unity, awareness and goodwill among law enforcers and various stakeholders of the community toward realizing the following goals: good health, peace and order, and the protection of the environment.

The participants were divided into two groups — bikers and runners.

Gumban led the bikers while Insp. Elton Arcangeles led the joggers.

The participants’ route was approximately 40 kilometers — from Roxas City Public Plaza to Barangays Ivisan, Lanot and Baybay.

Both groups assembled in Baybay to conduct a costal cleanup followed by a coffee break.

The activity, held simultaneously in the region, was the Philippine National Police’s pre-Valentine event./PN
