Ma to boyfriend of slain
girl: Come out or else…

BY FELIPE V. CELINO

ROXAS City — The mother of the slain 17-year-old girl challenged her daughters boyfriend to come out in the open.

If Niel Estores has nothing to do with the death of Rachel, he should show up and help the police look for the suspect, Lourdes Urdelas said.

Should Estores continue hiding, Urdelas said they will file murder charges against him.

Local policemen believed that Estores was hiding with his relatives in Romblon province.

Rachel is a third year high school student and a resident of Brgy. Balaring, Ivisan, Capiz.

Sustaining a fatal gunshot wound on the head, Rachel was found lying on the road by nearby residents.

She was still alive when she was rushed to the Roxas Memorial Provincial Hospital. But she later died.

According to Jun Argoncillo, Balaring barangay kagawad, the victim was last seen with her boyfriend, also of the same village, sitting on a waiting shed.

According to a source, Estores got jealous after learning that someone is courting Rachel.

Argoncillo said he found the victim lying on the road when he returned to Brgy. Balaring onboard on a red pick-up car.

He immediately informed the family about what happened to the victim.

Rachel’s sister Jassen said the victim earlier asked permission to go to the house of her classmate with her boyfriend to get a school project.

Insp. William Limjuco, Ivisan police chief, asked Estores to come out and shed light about the case.
Estores was the primary suspect in the case due to “circumstantial evidences,” he said./PN

Man, woman stabbed

ROXAS City — A man and woman were separately stabbed by allegedly the same person in this city recently.

Thirty-five-year-old Bob Avelino, a tricycle driver, was stabbed on Cassandra St., Brgy. Punta Tabuc here, police said.

Avelino sustained a stab wound on the right hand. He was brought to the Roxas Memorial Provincial Hospital where is currently confined, said the police.

Police identified another victim as 26-year-old An-An Catalan, who was brought to the same hospital two hours later.

Catalan, a resident of Brgy. Butongon, Estancia, Iloilo was stabbed when she was about to enter a KTV bar here, police said.

The suspect, police said, followed Catalan to the KTV bar where the latter was working as a guest relation officer.

Policemen recovered from one of the crime scenes a black wallet containing identification cards (IDs) of Edgardo Arancillo and Cyril Arancillo.

Police later noticed that the photos of the IDs were identical.

After a follow-up investigation, the police arrested Jotenie Delgado, believed to be the suspect’s companion.

They also recovered a pair of slippers believed to be owned by the suspect. The police have yet to determine the motive behind the incident. (Felipe Celino/PN

Red Cross registers 1,723
new blood donors in 2010

ROXAS City — The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) – Capiz Chapter registered 1,723 new individuals in its blood donors recruitment last year.

The figure is in addition to the Chapter’s 3,431 blood donors who belong to the “repeaters category” during the period.

PRC – Capiz administrator Nelia Cartujano said 18 new groups, companies and organization were added in the list of donors in about 1,470 mass blood donations that have been served by the PRC last year.

“Total number of blood collected reached 5,596 units,” said a PRC report.

The accomplishment was about 140 percent higher than its 4,000 target for 2010.

Cartujano noted that the orientations on voluntary blood donation to seek for more voluntary donors and encourage regular donors to do the blood letting more often have helped in the increase of figures in the report.

A person may become a blood donor four times in a year as long as he qualifies in the pre-screening laboratory tests requirement.

The report, however, noted that the PRC – Capiz has rejected 817 blood donors for various valid reasons last year. (AAL/PIA6/PN
