DUMALAG – Four cooperatives were recognized as the Most Outstanding Cooperative in Capiz this year.

They were the Jamindan School Teachers Cooperative, President Roxas Economic Development Cooperative, Mambusao Farmers Multi-Purpose Cooperative and Jagnaya Multi-Purpose Cooperative.

These cooperatives were awarded during the 18th Provincial Cooperative Month celebration yesterday.

“I would like to thank the support of nongovernment organizations and private individuals in keeping the spirit of cooperativism alive and strong,” said Gov. Victor Tanco in his speech.

This town under Mayor Lilia Castro hosted this year’s celebration that started with a parade around the town plaza.

Capiz has a total of 99 active cooperatives. Ten of them belong to the top 100 active cooperatives in Western Visayas.

The Provincial Cooperative Month celebration is an annual event participated by 16 towns in the province, and the component Roxas City.

The Provincial Board recently passed a resolution last week commending the Cooperative Development Authority 6 (CDA-6) for providing judges and evaluators in Capiz’s Search for the Most Outstanding Cooperative 2010.

The CDA-6 evaluated the documents of the participating cooperatives.

On the other hand, Roxas City Councilor Mathew James Viterbo received the banner of the Provincial Cooperative Development Council on behalf of Roxas City Mayor Angel Alan Celino.

It signifies that Roxas City will be the host of the 19th Cooperative Month celebration next year.
