ROXAS City – “Capiz is 99 percent gambling-free,” Senior Supt. Renato Gumban declared.
Gumban, provincial police director, said the existence of illegal numbers games was reported only in Dao and Dumarao towns.

But he assured that today or tomorrow, Capiz will be totally gambling-free.

Gumban based his pronouncement on the report of barangay officials and chiefs of police in the towns.

Earlier, Gumban ordered all his chiefs of police to intensify the campaign against illegal gambling.

Gumban said there was an order from the higher command to eradicate all illegal gambling activities.

Police Director Gen. Raul Bacalzo, newly-appointed Philippine National Police chief, has recently directed his men to “find out how to stop and eradicate illegal numbers games.”

Bacalzo gave the instructions to all regional police directors and district directors.

All police officials across the country were ordered to come up with a "comprehensive plan" to stamp out jueteng.

Mayor Angel Alan Celino declared Roxas City as “gambling-free” last month.

He also gave a marching order to the Roxas City police led by Supt. Kasmir Disomangcop to wipe out all forms of illegal gambling here.

According to Disomangcop, he had apprehended more than 10 suspects for soliciting bets for daily double, Pick 2 and 3 since he assumed office on August 23.

He said they have also identified three illegal gambling operators here. However, he refused to give their names.

“With the intensified campaign against them, illegal gambling operations will die a natural death,” said Disomangcop./PN
