Abandoned NPA camp found in Agusan; armed NPA rebel captured in Surigao del Sur

            BUTUAN CITY (PNA) - An abandoned New People’s Army camp in hinterland Barangay San Lorenzo, Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur was discovered by government troopers almost noon Saturday while a platoon of soldiers belonging to 29th IB who conducted combat operations captured an armed NPA member in Sitio Lansang, gold-rich Barangay Tambis, Barobo, Surigao del Sur on Saturday afternoon, police reports said.

 

            Report from Caraga PNP regional information office under leadership of Chief Inspector Nelly Villagarcia revealed Police Inspectors, PI Bjorn M. Tabocon and PI Chad S. Kiat-ong while conducting combat operation Saturday morning Narch 26 in the hinterlands of Barangay San Lorenzo, Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur discovered an abandoned NPA encampment with NPA belongings and paraphernalia on it.

 

Two sacks of rice, some clothes and patches of Bagong Hukbong Bayan or New People’s Army were all found inside abandoned NPA camp.

 

Said police officers immediately called up higher authorities to report the discovery.

 

Meanwhile, a platoon of soldiers belonging to 29th IB Philippine Army headed by 2nd Lt Warren Ching who conducted Commando Operations in the vicinity of sitio Agutay captured a suspected member of the New People’s Army Saturday afternoon in Barangay Tambis, Barobo, Surigao del Sur.

 

The Caraga PNP report identified the captured suspected NPA rebel as Louie Tejero alyas Gibson.

 

At the time of Tejero’s arrest, authorities claimed he was about to meet Zaldy Sumunod alyas “Eman”, commanding officer of Platoon 7, Guerilla Front 19-A of the NDF/CPP/NPA in the area.

 

Recovered from the NPA rebel’s possession were one (1) cal. 45 pistol, one (1) magazine and seven (7) rounds ammunitions.

 

Police said the captured NPA member was brought to to Alfa Company Command Post, 29IB at Brgy. Diatagon, Lianga, Surigao del Sur for tactical interrogation and was escorted by 13th RPSB personnel under the supervision of PSUPT Wilfredo L. Rinon, BATCOM.


Same police report claimed they are going still to investigate the twin incidents. (PNA/Ben Serrano)
