1 dead, 2 wounded in Army-PNP misencounter in Agusan del Sur

             BUTUAN CITY (PNA) - At least one government trooper was killed while another soldier and a policeman were wounded in a misencounter between search and rescue team of the Philippine National Police (PNP) and patrolling members of the 75th IB Philippine Army in Purok Alimo-ot, Barangay Kogonon, Trento, Agusan del Sur early dawn Friday

 

            In a text messages to PNA, Major Eugenio Osias IV, spokesperson of the army 4th Infantry Division (4ID) based in Cagayan De Oro City said that the identity of the lone casualty who is member of the 75th Infantry Battalion, Philippine Army is not yet divulged since family and close relatives of the said soldier victim has not yet been informed.

 

            Osias also did not divulged identities of the two wounded victims. a policeman member of the Regional Police Mobile Group while the other one was a member of the 75th I.B,

 

            Caraga Police Regional Director Chief Supt. Reynaldo S. Rafal confirmed to PNA that there indeed was a misencounter happened.

 

            Rafal said thorough investigation of the incident was on-going.

 

            Rafal claimed the police mobile group was part of the search and rescue operation of the Caraga Police trying to locate and rescue abducted policeman, PO3 George Sabati, a member of Trento Police Office who was kidnapped by the New People’s Army last week.

 

            Sabatin who was wounded after an NPA attack of a forest product checkpoint in Pulang Lupa, Trento, Agusan del Sur was abducted by the communist rebels and allegedly made him human shield against responding PNP operatives.

 

            At least seventy fully armed NPA rebels attacked the DENR-LGU checkpoint in Barangay Pulang Lupa last week killing two civilians and wounding two cops. One of the wounded cop was Sabatin who was also kidnapped.

 

           Sabatin as of press time was still nowhere to be found. (PNA/Ben Serrano)
