Wife of Caraga cop abducted by NPA rebels issued appeal for safe release of wounded hubby

            CAMP RAFAEL RODRIGUEZ, Libertad, Butuan City (PNA) -The 25 year old housewife of the abducted Caraga policeman issued appeal this afternoon to the New People’s Army to release her wounded husband saying her policeman husband is the sole bread winner of the family.

 

            Jonah Sabatin, 25, housewife of PO3 George Sabatin who was abducted by New People’s Army rebels early morning Tuesday claimed she sired four children with Sabatin, all are still pre-schoolers.          


         She described her 35 year old policeman husband as very simple and responsible man.

 

            According to police report Sabatin was made as human shield by the fleeing NPA rebels who attacked an LGU-DENR-PNP monitoring checkpoint Tuesday morning at around 6 a.m. where two civilian volunteers were killed and two wounded, a policeman companion of Sabatin and Sabatin himself.

 

            Police said after taking two M-16 service armalite rifles of the two wounded cops, the communist rebels snatched away Sabatin and forced him to the rebels' getaway vehicles, two Isuzu white forwarder trucks.

 

            Sabatin and his companion cop who is providing security at the revenue monitoring station were also providing security and assistance to PNP personnel who are at relief operations in the recent calamity brought about flash floods that hit Agusan del Sur.

 

            During her brief visit at the PNP Caraga regional office here this afternoon  Jonah who was accompanied by his four little children in tow claimed her husband's abduction worried her so much saying she do not know how to explain the incident to their four

  little children who are very close to Sabatin. 


            She told PNA that what she worries most is for three days now her husband might not get enough medical treatment from bullet wounds in the feet he sustained as a result of the attack.


She claimed she got no calls from her husband’s abductors neither her husband had called her.

 

            “He is the only breed winner of the family as he is also helping her farmer parents asdie from us his immediate family” Sabatin said.

 

            The abducted cop’s parents, farmer Father Daniel Sabatin is already 70 years old and mother Lolita, 68, relied their income in farming.

 

           PO3 George Sabatin is the eldest among five siblings who are also into farming and the other one was driving a trisikad as means of livelihood. 

.

            Caraga Police Regional Director Chief Supt. Reynaldo S, Rafal extended financial assistance and some relief goods to the grieving Sabatin wife and four children namely; Jheo, 6, Jonah Mae,5, Jodie, 3 and six months old George, Jr.

 

            The Sabatins claimed they also was affected by flash floods in their hometown Trento.

 

          Rafal assured Mrs. Sabatin that he will do his level best to assure  safe return of the abducted police officer.

 

          Rafal claimed negotiations by his men with the NPA rebels are now underway, 


        “Hopefully we expect him release anytime soon” Rafal assured the Sabatin family.


                 According to Rafal, abducted P03 George Sabatin was a member of Trento Municipal Police Police not Poilce Regional Mobile Force as earlier reported. (PNA/Ben Serrano)
