Robbery incidents on the rise in Caraga Region; 9 in a row in one week

            CAMP RAFAEL RODRIGUEZ, Libertad, BUTUAN CITY (AFP) - With already seven robbery incidents happened in different places in Caraga region officially recorded by police that took place in just a week January 16 to date, another two robbery incidents were added yesterday this time victimizing an Agusan del Sur businessman and the Municipal Treasurer’s Office itself of the Municipality of San Isidro, Surigao del Norte. 


                    This do not include the unreported robbery incidents, police here said. 

 

            Report from Caraga Police Regional Information office here claimed that the Municipal Treasurer’s Office no less located inside Municipal Hall of San Isidro, Surigao del Norte was ransacked by still unidentified robbers who gained entry at said office by destroying the office window grill and removed jalousie glass windows.

 

            Once inside, the robbers took away cash money deposited inside the treasurer’s office amounting all to Php 163, 935.OO placed inside the drawers of Municipal Treasurer Sancholita Salvacion Sumando and Dailinda Longos Arlan, the Treasurer’s Office Revenue Collection Clerk

 

            Sumando claimed the Php 90,000.00 cash money was taken away from her drawer while Php 73,935.OO cash money taken away by the robbers were coming from the drawer of Arlan, the Treasurer’s Office Revenue Collection Clerk representing her collections.

 

            The police report however did not explain why some huge amount of money were left by said government employees in the office and did not deposit it in government authorized bank.

 

            The money robbed represents cash collections of taxes in the island town of San Isidro in Siargao Island, the report claimed.

 

            Meanwhile, almost noon of January 22 , 2011, Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur businessman Pantaleon Magsigay Mahinay, Sr.,, 59, married was riding together with some members of his family were onboard riding his multi-cab service vehicle going to Prosperidad town proper.

 

While cruising the national highway upon reaching Barangay San Rafael, three motorcycle riding armed robbers onboard a single blue Honda XRM motorcycle suddenly blocked the road the multi-cab and pointed their .45 cal firearms to the multi-cab, declared a hold-up.

 

The suspects divested cash money from Mahinay amounting Php 4O,OOO.OO and two (2) units of Nokia mobile phones.

 

 Suspects immediately fled to unknown direction, police said.


Prosperidad Municipal Police office said they immediately took cognizance of the case.(AFP/Ben Serrano)
