Barangay Captain in Surigao del Norte nabbed for illegal possession of firearm

            BUTUAN CITY (PNA) - A Barangay Captain in the coastal town of San Francsico, Surigao del Norte was arrested by police operatives after being caught in the act of carrying an unlicensed firearm he was reportedly brandishing in his barangay last January 19 Wednesday, belated report from Caraga Police regional information office here.

 

            Report from San Francisco (formerly known as Malimono) Municipal Police Office to Caraga PNP office here, claimed that their office responded to a phone call from unknown civilian tipster that a grave threats and harassment acts are suddenly occurring in Barangay Oslao in said coastal town.

 

            San Francisco is more than 100 kilometers away from Butuan City, the region’s capital.

 

            San Francisco cops headed by SPO1 Herculano N Ambid responded to the reported crime scene and arrested Baarngay Captain Jerry Ballescas Escabal,, 41, married Punong Barangay of Oslao.

 

            Recovered from his possession was one (1) unit X9 9mm  Pistol bearing Serial Number X902101402 loaded with one live ammo.

 

            Police claimed case of Illegal Possession of firearm was already filed at the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office in Surigao City docketed NPS or National Prosecution Service No. XIII-06-INV-IIA-016 dated January, 20, 2011. (PNA/Ben Serrano)
