            SURIGAO CITY (PNA) - Neophyte Surigao del Norte Senior Provincial Board Member Myrna M. Romarate, wife of Surigao del Norte Second District Congressman Guillermo Romarate, Jr. was elected as the new National Vice President of the Provincial Board Members League of the Philippines during the league's national convention in Heritage Hotel, Pasay City last November 22-24, 2010.

            Romarate who is former school teacher and later rose from the ranks promoted to School Principal then District Schools Supervisor in Tubod, Surigao del Norte before becoming number one Provincial Board Member of Surigao del Norte, was PBMLP’s 17th National Vice President who came from Mindanao.

            The lady provincial board member has beaten Saranggani Provincial Board Member Eugene L. Alzate, party mate of People’s Champ and 8thtime World Boxing Champion Rep. Manny Pacquaio in the hotly contested PBLMP National election of officers for VP Mindanao.

            Romarate got 114 votes over Rep. Pacquaio’s bet at the PBLMP national officer’s election, 51 votes, says press statement from the Office of Congressman Romarate.

            Provincial Board Member Henry Bacurnay, Jr. of La Union was elected National President while actor politician Provincial Board Member Gary Estrada of Quezon Province as Vice President for Luzon

            Romarate came to the convention as President of PBMLP-Caraga Region but clamor by board members from Caraga, Davao, Misamis and Zamboanga provinces for her to run as National Vice President had persuaded her to take on the challenge, the press statement furnished to this writer said.

            In her press statement, Romarate outlined her priorities for the PBMLP;

            One, PBMLP should take a more active and strategic role in making representations with our national leaders on the urgent needs of the still underdeveloped Mindanao.

            Two, PBMLP should evaluate its priorities and interface all our efforts to P-Noy’s call for equitable progress and three, PBMLP should aspire to forge private-public partnerships in Mindanao in social services, education, environmental protection, entrepreneurship and health.

"I join and adopt the call of President Aquino to harness the energies of dialogue, solidarity, and communal responsibility. With these, we can never waver with our aspirations for our respective provinces,” the lady Provincial Board Member from Surigao del Norte said as she thanked all colleagues at the PBLMP who elected her.
