PNP denies 3 bodyguards of Agusan town Mayor disarmed by NPA rebels

            Camp Rafael Rodriguez, LIBERTAD, BUTUAN CITY- With full red alert status heightened, Caraga Police Regional Director Chief Supt. Reynaldo S. Rafal denied news report that some 60 suspected NPA rebels disarmed three armed bodyguards of a Municipal Mayor in Agusan del Sur Saturday morning

 

            Rafal claimed what were disarmed Saturday morning about 6:20 a.m. by NPA rebels were civilian residents of Barangay San Patricio, Lapaz,Agusan del Sur were two homemade shotguns and one .38 cal pistol were confiscated by suspected NPA rebels headed by certain Kumander Yomad of Front Committee 88 of the CPP/NPA/NDF.

 

            According to General Rafal, said suspected NPA rebels operating in the area were conducting propaganda activities when the disarming incident took place.

 

            Rafal however vowed to conduct further investigation and monitor said disarming report involving a Municipal Mayor in Agusan del Sur.

 

            According to the news report, at around 6:00 a.m. Saturday, an estimated 60 NPA rebels swooped down Barangay San Patricio, Lapaz, Agusan del Sur that sow fear among barangay residents looking for certain Kikoy Mondejar who is resident in said barangay.

 

            As they searching, they chanced three armed bodyguards of the Mayor and disarmed them.

 

            The report alleged confiscated from certain Bugoy Pajarillo was one homemade shotgun and a .38 cal pistol from certain Bobby Plana.

 

            Suspected NPA rebels also confiscated two pairs of shoes from a soldier belonging to 26th IB Philippine Army who was in said barangay during the alleged NPA raid.

 

            The PNP Caraga regional office denied this news report saying only civilians were victimized in the disarming incident.

 

            When asked if they had intelligence report that some civilians in the area were armed and why it took NPA rebels to take noticed that some civilians were already arming themselves, PNP officials did not reply to the query made by this writer. . (-30-)
