LIGHTWEIGHTS AND DOT: Latest evidence of “lighweight Cabinet officials”? Read the news, from the CNN site yet, about the Department of Tourism (DOT) being forced to take down its latest website, because it is named confusingly-similar to a porn site. Really now, how can the DOT come up with a website for our country that bears a name similar to a porn-site?

Or, perhaps this was no accident? Perhaps, if its plans were not derailed by a public furor, the DOT was only being true to the new directions it will undertake to promote the Philippines under its new secretary, Alberto Lim? Wow, Philippines!!!

                    -ooo-

LIGHTWEIGHTS AND DENR: Read also the news (at the Philippine Star issue of Monday, November 22, 2010) about what the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) intends to do to fight the resurgent avian influenza or bird flu: monitor all points of entry in the country---and perhaps see with their eyes if avian influenza or bird flu is trying to gain an entry?

I wonder if what Secretary Ramon Paje wanted to do with this directive is to require DENR officials and employees to shoo away, with their loud voices and their bulging bellies, the “incoming” bird flu so it would fly away from us? Well, why not put scarecrows instead in all of these entry points to scare the bird flu away? Wow, Philippines!

                    -ooo-

LIGHTWEIGHTS AND BOMB ATTACKS: Then, again, we should also read the news about what the government is capable of doing in the face of bomb attacks hitting many parts of the Mindanao region, such as that which took place in Maguindanao, Sunday, November 21, 2010: as the Star reported, Justice Secretary Leila De Lima condemned the bombing.

Wow, Philippines! Since when has a condemnation from the justice secretary, or even from the President of the Philippines, or even from the police and the military organizations, stopped bad elements from bombing any place they fancy bombing? Is this the only thing we can do now? Condemn, and hope the rouges get terrified?

                    -ooo-

LIGHTWEIGHTS AND MALACANANG LAWYERS: Just very recently, too, we also have been regaled with the news that the House of Representatives sent back to Malacanang its Proclamation No. 50 for revision, because it is violative of certain basic Constitutional provisions which may nullify the amnesty given by President Aquino to Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV and other military men accused of rebellion against the Arroyo government.

That decision of our congressmen is a slap in the face, if you ask me, to the lawyers in Malacanang, who appeared no more than juvenile school boys being lectured by their teachers on the rudiments of Constitutional issues. Wow, Philippines.

HOW NOT TO BECOME A LIGHTWEIGHT: How not to become a “lightweight” Cabinet member? Follow the admonition of the Lord Jesus Christ as to what a leader must do, under Mark 10:43-44, where it is said “anyone wanting to become a leader must become the slave of all.”

Also, follow the admonition of Jethro, the father in law of Moses, as to how a leader should carry out his duties and responsibilities: “…you shall select out of all the people able men who fear God, men of truth, those who hate dishonest gain…” (Exodus 18:21, the Holy Bible).

(Exodus 18:21, Bibliya).
