LIFE’S INSPIRATIONS: “…The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective…” (James 5:16, the Holy Bible).

EXECUTIONS MAY YET BE CARRIED OUT: Even as Vice President Jejomar Binay and President Aquino deserve to be congratulated on the postponement of the execution of three Filipinos convicted by the China Supreme Court on charges of illegal drug trafficking, victory is really far from complete yet, because the death sentences could still be carried out.

That being the case, all of us should continue praying for our countrymen, as President Aquino urged even before Binay was allowed to go to Beijing, and as Manila Rep. Amado Bagatsing is now urging us to do. Everything now is in God’s hands, and prayers can work miracles.

By the way, if one is looking for something good from this case, it is the growing realization that we need to pray more often to God not only to find solutions to existing problems, but even to avoid incoming ones.

OFW ON DEATH ROW IN SAUDI LEFT OUT? If anything at all, this frenetic concern over the fate of three Filipinos convicted of drug trafficking in China has only highlighted the government’s inability to display the same vigilance in the cases of other overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who are also facing the death penalty.

The case of one Celestino “Dondon” Lanuza readily comes to mind, simply because he has been flooding Facebook accounts of mediamen and cause-oriented groups with requests for help so the death sentence imposed on him by the Saudi Arabia Supreme Court could also be reversed. It seems no one wants to help him, however, and the question is: why is he being discriminated against?

I guess that Lanuza should try to be more prayerful, on top of his Facebook crusades.

MIRIAM MUST LOOK INTO PROCESSED FOOD PRODUCTS TOO: My favorite lawmaker who was my professor at the UP College of Law, Sen. Miriam Defensor Santiago, is doing a great job waging war against toxic substances in toys, school supplies and other children’s articles, and on pesticides used on vegetables and other food crops, in view of the undeniable reality that toxicity in all these has already reached deadly levels.

But, I hope she can also look into more harmful substances that more readily endanger the lives of our people, coming from ordinary food items like ham, bacon and other processed meat products, and even from French fries and other products from fastfood chains.

The salt and the oil and the sugar from these processed meat products and fast foods are silent killers that must be eliminated from the diet of Filipinos.
