Good police probes coming back

LIFE’S INSPIRATIONS: “…I and the Father are one…” (Jesus Christ, in John 10:30, the Holy Bible).

CONGRATS, SAMMY PAGDILAO & CIDG: For someone like me who spent some time being a police reporter for a major daily in the late 1970s and early 1980s, I got a thrill of a lifetime reading the news that the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) of the Philippine National Police came up with a twist in the one-week old Pilar Pilapil stabbing case.

The CIDG, under its new chief, Chief Supt. Samuel Pagdilao Jr., said Pilapil’s woman-companion at the time of the stabbing incident, Rosel Jacosalem Penas, is no longer being considered a victim like Pilar, but a suspect in the crime. Then, Pagdilao and his investigators detailed facts and incidents dug up by CIDG probers to prove their point.

This gave me a thrill because, at last, the days of honest-to-goodness and almost 100 percent accurate police investigation of crimes, so common in the 1970s and 1980s but which appeared to have disappeared inexplicably, seem to be coming back, thanks to Pagdilao and his men. Congratulations, Sammy and CIDG!

ISKO’S THREAT: GUILTY AS CHARGED! Manila Vice Mayor Isko Moreno’s threat to jail those who will swim in the murky waters of Manila Bay is a shameful reaction to charges that Mayor Alfredo Lim and the City of Manila failed to do their job to clean the bay regularly, as ordered by the Supreme Court. The threat to jail is a classic roar of a guilty tiger, a pitiable reaction to the truth that the City has been caught sleeping on its job and with its pants down, yet.

CHARGE GMA’S ALLIES, TOO: Jose Barredo’s claim that political allies of Gloria Arroyo benefitted the most from the P728 million agriculture fund scam should now prod the Ombudsman to also file cases against these allies---mayors, governors, and congressmen---who received part of the money. These officials are also liable for plunder because of their direct participation and indispensable cooperation in malversing the funds, as Barredo is saying.

SECRET OF DAILY GOOD HEALTH: One of the secrets of having good health all the days of our lives is giving thanks to God for whatever we eat and drink, and then asking that whatever we drink be made the blood of Jesus and that whatever we eat be made His body, so that every time we eat and drink, we are eating and drinking the body and blood of Jesus and, in fact, communing and being one with Him.

The instruction to all who believe in Jesus, found in 1 Corinthians 11:23-34, is this: whenever we eat and when we drink, we must recognize the body and blood of Jesus, “for anyone who eats and drinks without recognizing the body of the Lord eats and drinks judgment on himself. That is why many among you are weak and sick, and a number of you have fallen asleep.”

This is in reverential remembrance of the Last Supper, where Jesus took the bread and the wine, gave thanks to God, and then told his disciples to eat and drink the bread and wine, for they were His body and blood which will be given up to forgive the sins of many.

It is clear that Jesus, the God and Savior of believers, wanted to be one with those who will remember Him whenever they ate and drank . The point is that, when Jesus is with us as we eat and drink, and He is one with us through our food and our drinks, we can ask Him anything and it shall be given to us.

Congratulations Sammy at CIDG!
