PNoy’s officials to blame

BY ATTY. BATAS MAURICIO

LIFE’S INSPIRATIONS: “…Now Jesus was going up to Jerusalem. On the way, he took the Twelve aside and said to them…`They will condemn him to death and will hand him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and flogged and crucified. On the third day he will be raised to life!’ ” (Matthew 20:17-19, the Holy Bible).

PNOY COMMUNICATION OFFICIALS TO BLAME: With a big number of sympathetic newspapers still on its side, and three television stations and a radio network across the country under its ownership and control, there is no reason why the Aquino government should be unable to drumbeat its achievements and make the people become effectively aware of them.

If Filipinos remain ignorant of the good things this administration has done, if any, then there is no one else to blame but President Aquino’s communication officials who, it seems, are doing everything except communicating the good deeds of government.

The President should take a tip from Rotary International which, despite its successes in providing “service above self” everywhere in the world where there is a Rotarian, still has made public relations one of its three “strategic plans” for the years to come.

LEGARDA AND BIBLICAL DIMENSIONS OF CLIMATE CHANGE: Sen. Loren Legarda, once again, is very correct in asking President Aquino to convene immediately the Climate Change Commission which the Chief Executive heads likewise, for there is an urgent need to make our people more well-rehearsed on disaster prevention and mitigation.

But then, also once again, I wish to remind her, the President and even the Climate Change Commission, that preparing for disaster prevention and mitigation would be a useless and a mere costly exercise if we do not take into account the Biblical and spiritual dimensions of global warming and climate change.

I guess this is the problem of all efforts to fight global warming and climate change, and we are equally guilty as the rest of the world, in having this problem---we refuse to accept that rains, floods and strong winds and other natural calamities are the result of God’s curses arising from man’s having turned his back on God.

Perhaps, Loren should read the Bible first on this issue, particularly Deuteronomy 28:15-68 and Matthew 7:24-27, to make her climate change moves more successful.

ADMINISTRATION OF MEN, NOT OF LAWS: Malacanang should warn its deputy spokesman, Abigail Valte, to be more careful in dealing with issues like dismissals from the service of any government official, especially in the case of Assistant Ombudsman Emilio Gonzales.

Due process is still the name of the game, even if it is the desire of the Palace to expedite the expulsion of those perceived by it as “non-performing assets” in government, and this simply means allowing the affected personnel to exhaust all legal remedies to contest the administrative action against them. Otherwise, this administration, despite its protestations, is also an administration of men, not of laws.
