ABORTION IS REAL ISSUE IN RH BILL: It is not really important who knocked out whom in the speaking bout between Sarangani Rep. Manny Pacquiao, who is leading the fight against the Reproductive Health Bill, and Albay Rep. Edcel Lagman, who is on the other hand the principal author of the measure, because the issue of deliberate abortion remains unanswered.

And that is what I am afraid of. While I generally agree on the need to come up with measures to assure a better life for our suffering countrymen, it appears to me that the Reproductive Health Bill is not one of them. Why, China and India have billions of people, and yet they are much richer than the Philippines.

To Edcel and all others pushing the RH Bill, please answer the question: is it true that, if passed as a law, this bill will allow girls as young as 10 (or even younger, as long as they are capable of being impregnated already) to kill the babies in their wombs, by their own decision, with their parents or other relatives unable to do anything? This is the real issue here that needs clarification.

MALACANANG SHOULD IMMITATE ROTARY: Malacanang’s cotery of communication officials should try to adopt a recent “strategic planning guide” established by Rotary International for its 1.5 million members worldwide, to assure the world that whatever Rotary is doing for the poor and the marginalized gets to be understood and appreciated by all.

The “guide” says that while Rotarians must assure that its 35,000 or so clubs worldwide continue to be strengthened and their humanitarian service greatly enhanced all the more, they must also now engage in “enhancing public image”---which means telling the “service above self” story of Rotary more rabidly.

President Aquino must order his subordinates, especially those in his communications group, to also engage in “enhancing public image”, as what Rotarians are doing now, so that the good things in his government will really reach the Filipino people this time.

RULES FOR DAILY LIVING, PART I: Due to requests this column is receiving from many of its readers, we will list here, for the next several days, rules for daily living from the Holy Bible, in an attempt to help our people live according to the Word of God and therefore allow God’s blessings to be poured upon us.

Here is what Colossians 3:5-8 mandates: “Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. Because of these, the wrath of God is coming.

“You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived. But now you must also rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. Do not lie to each other…”

Abortion ang tunay na isyu sa RH bill

INSPIRASYON SA BUHAY: “…Ang karunungang nagmumula sa itaas, una sa lahat, ay dalisay, pagkatapos ay mapayapa, maamo, nagpapasakop, puno ng kahabagan at may mabubuting bunga. Ito ay hindi nagtatangi at walang pagpapakunwari. Ngunit ang bunga ng katuwiran ay itinatanim sa kapayapaan para doon sa mga gumagawa ng kapayapaan… (Santiago 3:17-18, Bibliya).

ABORTION ANG TUNAY NA ISYU SA RH BILL: Hindi naman talaga mahalaga kung sino ang na-knock out sa debate sa pagitan nina Sarangani Rep. Manny Pacquiao, na namumuno sa paglaban sa Reproductive Health Bill, at Albay Rep. Edcel Lagman, na siya namang may-akda ng panukalang batas. Ang mahalaga, hindi pa rin nasasagot ang isyu ng abortion sa panukala ni Lagman.

At yan ang aking pinangangambahan. Bagamat katig ako sa pangangailangang kumilos ang lahat upang magkaroon ng mas magandang buhay ang mga kawawang mga kababayan natin, maliwanag sa akin na ang Reproductive Health bill ay hindi makakatulong sa atin. Bakit naman ang China at India? Bilyon ang kanilang populasyon pero mas mayamang di hamak sila sa Pilipinas.

Kay Edcel at sa mga nagsusulong ng RH bill, pakisagot lang po: totoo ba na kung naging batas na ito, papayagan na ang mga batang babaeng nag-eedad lamang ng 10 (o kahit mas bata pa, kung nabuntis na din) na patayin ang sanggol sa kanilang tiyan, sa sarili nilang desisyon na di maaaring pakialaman ng kanilang mga magulang? Ito ang tunay na isyu sa RH Bill na dapat liwanagin.

MALACANANG, DAPAT GUMAYA SA ROTARY: Dapat pagsikapan ng hanay ng communication officials ng Malacanang na gayahin ang “strategic planning guide” na itinatag ng Rotary International para sa kanyang 1.5 milyong mga miyembro sa buong mundo, upang makasiguradong ang anumang ginagawa ng Rotary para sa mahihirap ay naiintindihan at pinasasalamatan ng lahat.

Ayon sa “guide” na ito, bagamat kailangang siguraduhin ng mga Rotarian na ang 35,000 mga clubs nito sa buong mundo ay lalo pang napapalakas at ang kanilang paglilingkod ay mapapatindi pa, dapat na rin silang kumilos upang mapaganda din lalo ang imahen ng Rotary----na ang ibig sabihin, dapat ipagsabi na ng mga kasapi nito ang kanilang mga kuwento ng paglilingkod ng higit sa sarili.

Kailangang utusan ng Pangulong Aquino ang kanyang mga opisyales, lalo na sa mga nasa communications group, na magsagawa na din ng puspusang programa upang maipagsabi na din nila ang mga mabubuting gawa ng kanyang gobyerno upang makarating ito sa lahat ng mga Pilipino.

ALITUNTUNIN SA BUHAY, I: Batay sa kahilingan ng maraming mambabasa ng kolum na ito, ililista po natin dito, ngayon at sa mga susunod na araw, ang mga alituntunin sa Bibliya ukol sa araw-araw na pamumuhay, upang matulungan ang ating mga kababayang sumunod sa Salita ng Diyos, at maging daan ito ng pagpapala.

Naririto ang sinasabi ng Colosas 3:5-8: “Patayin nga ninyo ang inyong mga bahagi na maka-lupa. Ito ay ang pakikiapid, karumihan, pita ng laman, masasamang nasa at kasakiman na siyang pagsamba sa diyos-diyosan. Dahil sa mga bagay na ito, ang poot ng Diyos ay dumarating sa mga anak na masuwayin.
