LIFE’S INSPIRATIONS: “…Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy. Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh…” (Romans 13:13-13, the Holy Bible).

IS PEOPLE POWER POSSIBLE AGAINST A POPULAR PRESIDENT? Is it really possible to oust a hugely popular president via another people power this time, as retired Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Oscar Cruz is saying? Well, if we look back at our own history, particularly in the case of former President Estrada, the answer is yes, it is possible.

Will the people who voted the highly popular president allow their choice to be kicked out of office? The answer is also yes, based on what happened to President Estrada who, before President Aquino, managed to get the highest vote ever for a Philippine president.

Is there a legal basis for people power in our Constitution? Well, I have already written about this before, and my answer then, which is still my answer now, was yes, there is. Two presidents already proved people power is legally permissible, especially now with the people power provisions of the present Charter.

WHY IS PICHAY BEING SINGLED OUT? The preventive suspension of former Surigao congressman and Local Water Utilities Administrator Prospero Pichay by the Ombudsman presents an interesting issue: is the Ombudsman really sincere in its effort to weed out corruption in government? 

If so, why does it appear that Pichay is being single out as he is the only one being prosecuted here in connection with the case of the Express Savings Bank, Inc.? Did Pichay do this alone?

VIP PRISONERS AN OLD ISSUE: The issue of “VIP prisoners” at the National Penitentiary in Muntinlupa City has been with us since ages ago, and yet, it is something that will never go away. The reason is that it will always be profitable to deal with VIP prisoners who can pay for their privileges. It all boils down to lacking fear and love of God.

RULES FOR DAILY LIVING, PART II: Here is another set of Biblical rules for daily living, straight from the Holy Book itself, in its Colossians 3:18-21, which talks about relationships in any given family.

 “Wives, submit yourselves to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. Husbands, love your wives and do not be harsh with them. 

“Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord. Fathers, do not embitter your children, or they will become discouraged…”

People power vs. presidenteng popular?

INSPIRASYON SA BUHAY: “…Ang Diyos ang nagbigay sa inyo ng pagtitiis at pagpapalakas-loob upang magkaroon kayo ng iisang kaisipan sa isa't isa ayon kay Cristo Jesus. Gagawin niya ito upang sa nagkakaisang kaisipan at nagkakaisang bibig ay luwalhatiin ninyo ang Diyos na Ama ng ating Panginoong Jesucristo…” (Roma 15:5-6, Bibliya).

PEOPLE POWER, POSIBLE BA LABAN SA POPULAR NA PRESIDENTE? Posible nga bang mapatalsik sa pamamagitan muli ng people power ang isang napaka-popular na pangulo, gaya ng sinasabi ni retiradong Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Oscar Cruz? Sabagay, kung babalikan natin ang kasaysayan, lalo na sa kaso ng Pangulong Estrada, ang sagot ay oo, posible nga.

Papayag ba ang mga taong nagluklok sa napaka-popular na presidente na siya ay mapatalsik sa puwesto? Ang sagot ay oo din, batay muli sa nangyari kay Pangulong Estrada na siyang pinakaraming botong nakuha sa mga naunang kandidatong pangulo, bago dumating ang Pangulong Aquino. 

May batayang legal ba ang people power sa ating Saligang Batas? Noong nakakaraang mga araw ay isinulat ko na ito, at ang sagot ko noon, na siya ring sagot ko ngayon, ay oo, mayroon. Dalawang pangulo na ang nakapagpatunay sa bagay na ito, lalo na ngayon at may people power provisions na ang Konstitusyon.

BAKIT SI PICHAY LAMANG ANG BINABANATAN? May interesanteng isyu ang pagkakasuspindi ng Ombudsman kay dating Surigao congressman at ngayon ay Local Water Utilities Administrator Prospero Pichay: sinsero nga ba ang Ombudsman sa paglaban sa korapsiyon sa pamahalaan?

Kung oo, bakit lumilitaw na si Pichay lamang ang binabanatan dito at siya lamang ang inihahabla sa kaso ng Expresss Savings Bank, Inc.? Ginawa ba ni Pichay ito ng nag-iisa?

VIP PRISONERS, MATAGAL NG ISYU: Ang isyu ng “VIP prisoners” sa Bilibid Prisons sa Muntinlupa City ay kasama na natin noon pa man, pero ito ay isang bagay na hindi maaalis. Ang dahilan ay ito: malaki kasi ang kita sa isyu ng mga VIP prisoners na nakahandang magbayad para sa kanilang mga pribilehiyo. Isyu talaga ito ng kawalan ng takot at pagmamahal sa Diyos.

ALITUNTUNIN SA BUHAY, II: Naririto ang isa na namang grupo ng mga alituntuning mula sa Colosas 3:18-21 ng Bibliya para sa pang-araw-araw na pamumuhay na tumatalakay sa relasyon sa isang pamilya.

“Mga babae, magpasakop kayo sa inyong mga asawa, gaya ng nararapat sa Panginoon. Mga lalaki, mahalin ninyo ang inyong mga asawa at huwag kayong maging malupit sa kanila.

 “Mga anak, sumunod kayo sa inyong mga magulang sa lahat ng bagay, sapagkat nakakasiya ito sa Panginoon. Mga magulang, huwag ninyong pagmalupitan ang inyong mga anak upang hindi sila manghina…”
