ROTARIANS AS MIRACLE WORKERS FOR SERVICE ABOVE SELF, II: Here is the second part of the speech I delivered during the “Governor’s Visit and Fellowship for Service Above Self and Four Way Test” of the Rotary Club of Intramuros last September 29, 2011, entitled “Rotarians as Miracle Workers for Service Above Self”, and dealing with a quotation of how Bill Gates described Rotarians during the 2011 Rotary International Convention in New Orleans, USA:

“ `(Rotarians) are the people who are capable of mobilizing others. (Rotarians) are the people who leaders listen and respond to. With (their) credibility, (Rotarians) are the world’s most important advocates for polio eradication.

“ `I’ve seen the incredible commitment (Rotarians have) brought to raising money---charity bike rides, a charity swim, climbing mountains, projecting the end polio now message in many, many places. These are amazing, inspiration efforts that raise both funds and awareness. They need to continue. They make a huge difference…”

GREAT MIRACLES IN THE WORK OF ROTARIANS: “Great speech I concede, but, if I may be permitted to add a little that statement of Gates, I will say that, against all odds, Rotarians, especially from the Philippines and from District 3810, do lead the way in performing great miracles in delivering `Service Above Self’ to many Filipinos who are poor and needy.

“The Rotarians’ work in the Philippines is a miracle, as far as I am concerned, especially if we consider the fact that not many of them are rich, nor are politically-connected, nor possession much needed social clout and muscle.

“If the truth be told, notwithstanding the fact that Rotarians are generally only ordinary men and women who are not rich, not politically-connected and not having much social clout and muscle, their giving of `service above self’ is a concrete reality.

ROTARIANS PERFORM SUCCESSFUL ASSISTANCE: “This was noted by our very own Past District Gov. Lyne Abanilla, in her speech before Indonesian Rotarians last September 22 and 24, 2011, in Jakarta and Subaraya, Indonesia, delivered in her capacity as the chair of the Public Imaging Group of Rotary International for South Pacific.

“Gov. Lyne in that speech pointed out that Rotarians everywhere, most especially in the Philippines and from District 3810 I would hasten to add, provide safe drinking water, help build schools, homes, bridges, clinics, hospitals, heal millions and millions of sick people through medical-dental-surgical and optical missions, provide prosthesis to amputees, plant trees and clean esteros to make the environment safe, send to school poor but intellectually-gifted students.

“Clearly, many Rotarians, including those who come from the Philippines and from District 3810, go out of their way to successfully help their fellowmen, despite the evident financial and other material constraints in their clubs and even in their own personal lives…” More of this next issue. Rotarians, matindi sa paglilingkod, Part II

INSPIRASYON SA BUHAY: “… At ito ang aking panalangin: nawa’y hgit na lumago ang inyong pag-ibig sa mas malalim na kaalaman, upang matutunan ninyo kung ano ang mabuti at mahusay, at maging malinis at hindi masisisi sa araw ni Kristo…” (Filipos 1:9-10, Bibliya).

ROTARIANS, BILANG MGA MIRACLE WORKERS SA PAGLILINGKOD NG HIGIT SA SARILI, II: Naririto ang pangalawang bahagi ng talumpating aking ibinigay noong “Governor’s Visit and Fellowship for Service Above Self and Four Way Test” ng Rotary Club of Intramuros noong Septyembre 29, 2011, na pinamagatang “Rotarians bilang milagrosong mga manggagawa para sa paglilingkod ng higit sa sarili” at tumatalakay sa mga sinabi ni Bill Gates sa 2011 Rotary International Convention sa New Orleans, USA:

“ `Ang mga Rotarians ay mga taong may kakayahang pakilusin ang sambayanan. Ang mga Rotarians ay mga taong pinakikinggan at tinutugon ng mga lider. Dahil sa angking kredibilidad, ang mga Rotarians ay mahalagang mga tagapag-sulong upang maalis na ang sakit na polio.

“ `Nakita ko na ang kamangha-manghang pagkilos ng mga Rotarians upang makalikom ng pondo---mga pondo mula sa paglalakbay sa pamamagitan ng bisekleta, mga pondo sa paglangoy, pag-akyat sa bundok, at pagpapalaganap ng mensaheng tatapusin na ang polio sa maraming mga lugar. Ang mga ito ay kagulat-gulat at nakakalugod na mga pagkilos upang makalikom ng pondo at maipakilala ang mga suliranin…”

MGA MILAGRO SA MGA GAWAIN NG MGA ROTARIANS: “Ang talumpati ni Gates ay dakila, subalit kung pahihintulutan ako na magdagdag doon, sasabihin kong kahit sa harap ng maraming mga suliranin, ang mga Rotarians mula sa Pilipinas at sa District 3810, ay nangunguna sa mga mapagpalang mga gawain upang maibigay ang `paglilingkod ng higit sa sarili’ sa mga mahihirap na Pilipino.

“Ang gawain ng mga Rotarians sa Pilipinas ay tila kababalaghan, lalo na kung isasaalang-alang natin na marami sa kanila ay hindi naman mayaman, hindi naman konektado sa politika at wala namang lakas o impluwensiya.

“Kung sasabihin natin ang katotohanan, sa kabila ng marami sa mga Rotarians ang mga ordinaryong tao din lamang at hindi mayaman, hindi konektado sa politika at walang lakas o impluwensiya, ang pagbibigay nila ng paglilingkod ng higit sa sarili ay isang kongkretong realidad.

ROTARIANS, MATAGUMPAY ANG PAGTULONG: “Ito ay siyang pinatotohanan mismo ni Past District Gov. Lyne Abanilla, sa kanyang talumpati sa harap ng mga Rotarians mula sa Indonesia noong Septyembre 22 at 24, 2011, sa Jakarta at Subaraya, sa kanyang katauhan bilang pinuo ng Public Imaging Group ng Rotary International para sa South Pacific.

“Sinabi ni Gov. Lyne na ang mga Rotarians sa lahat ng dako, lalo na sa Pilipinas at District 3810, ay nagbibigay ng ligtas na inuming tubig, nagtatayo ng mga eskuwelahan, bahay, tulay, klinika, ospital, at nagpapagaling mga may-sakit sa pamamagitan ng medical-dental-surgical at optical mission, at maging ng mga prostestis sa mga putol, nagtatanim ng puno at naglilinis ng mga estero, at nagpapaaral ng mga mahihirap na kabataan.

“Maliwanag, ang mga Rotarians, lalo na sa Pilipinas at mula sa District 3810, ang kumikilos upang matagumpay na matulungan ang mga nangangailangan, sa kabila ng kanilang pansariling kawalan at kakulangan…” May dagdag pa po ito.
