TREACHERY AND TREASON IN BASILAN? There is something about treachery and treason that disturbs many people over the killing of 19 officers and men of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) in Basilan by members of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).

Media reports say that in its website, the MILF is claiming that someone in the AFP (a mole by the MILF) tipped MILF leaders of the attack planned by the AFP against the MILF, so the rebels prepared a counter-attack. What? Someone from the AFP turned traitor against his own comrades-in-arms? Could this be true?

SUPPORTERS OF RA 9344 MISS THE POINT: The supporters of the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act of 2006, Republic Act 9344, are missing the point: yes, we have to protect Filipino children and yes, we have to rehabilitate them. But then, we should not allow a law like Republic Act 9344 to turn our children into criminals. And that is the problem about this law, actually.

Under RA 9344, no child 15 years old and below can be arrested even if they are committing even the most heinous of crimes. In fact, because of the law, no policeman or barangay tanod will touch a child-criminal with a ten-foot pole, for fear that they will be accused of violating RA 9344. This emboldens not only the child, but the criminal syndicates as well which are using them for drug pushing, gunrunning and prostitution.

My suggestion therefore is this: retain RA 9344, but remove from it the prohibition to arrest offenders who are 15 years old and below. We must arrest these children if they violate the law, but we must provide a way out for their criminality!

RP MUST PREPARE FOR RAINLESS FLOODS NOW: The Philippines must look very closely now at what is happening to Bangkok and other prime cities of Thailand, and learn how floodwaters can submerge vast parcels of land even when there is no rain, to enable Filipinos to prepare for the worst when flooding even without rains start to happen here. 

Rains, floods and winds will come, even against our wishes, not only because of global warming and climate change, but more because Jesus Christ, our God and Savior, said they will come, as reported by Matthew 7:24-27 of the Holy Bible.

JESUS WARNED US ABOUT RAINS, FLOODS: Just so we are reminded, here is Matthew 7:24-27 once again: “… everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall.

“But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash…”

Kataksilan at katrayduran sa Basilan?

INSPIRASYON SA BUHAY: “… Nais kong isagawa ang Iyong kalooban, aking Diyos; ang Iyong batas ay nasa aking puso…” (Awit 40:8, Bibliya).

KATAKSILAN AT KATRAYDURAN SA BASILAN? May isyu ukol sa katrayduran at kataksilan na pinag-iisipan ng maraming tao sa ngayon patungkol sa kamatayang sinapit ng 19 na opisyales at mga sundalo ng Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) sa Basilan, sa kamay ng mga kasapi ng Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).

Ayon sa mga ulat sa media, ibinunyag ng MILF sa kanyang website na isang taga AFP (na espiya ng MILF) ang nagbigay ng impormasyon sa MILF na nagpaplano diumano ang AFP na lusubin ang MILF, kaya naman nakapaghanda ang mga rebelde, dahilan upang mapatay nila ang 19 na sundalo ng AFP. Ano? May nag-traydor mula sa AFP at inilaglag ang sarili niyang mga kasama? Totoo ba ito?

MAY DI NAKIKITA ANG SUPPORTERS NG RA 9344: Tila may nakakaligtaan ang mga nagtataguyod ng Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act of 2006, o Republic Act 9344: oo, kailangang proteksiyunan natin ang kabataang Pilipino, at, oo, dapat silang tulungang magbago. Pero, hindi natin dapat payagan ang Republic Act 9344 na gawing kriminal ang ating mga kabataan. Ito, sa totoo lang, ang problema sa batas na ito.

Sa ilalim kasi ng RA 9344, walang batang may edad na 15 at pababa ang maaaring arestuhin kahit na gumagawa sila ng mga karumal-dumal na krimen. Dahil diyan, walang pulis o tanod ang mangangahas lumapit man lamang sa batang kriminal. Kaya naman lumalakas ang loob ng mga bata, at maging ng mga sindikatong gumagamit sa kanila sa pagbebenta ng droga, mga baril at ng panandaliang-aliw.

Ang aking panukala? Panatiliin pa rin ang RA 9344, pero alisin natin ang mga bahagi nitong nagbabawal sa pag-aresto sa mga batang kriminal na may edad 15 anyos at pababa. Kailangan pa ring arestuhin ang mga batang ito kung gumagawa sila ng krimen, bagamat kailangan nating tulungan silang makabangon o makatakas mula sa kriminalidad.

RP, DAPAT PAGHANDAAN ANG PAGBAHA KAHIT WALANG ULAN: Dapat ng masusing pag-aralan ng Pilipinas ang nangyayari ngayon sa Bangkok at iba pang mga siyudad ng Thailand, at alamin kung papaanong napapalubog ng baha ang maraming bahagi doon bagamat walang ulan, upang makapaghanda na ang mga Pilipino sakaling dumating na din ang kahalintulad na kalamidad na ito sa bansa.

Darating ang ulan, baha at hangin, kahit di natin gusto, hindi lamang dahil sa global warming at climate change, kundi dahil na din sa ibinabala na ang mga ito ni Jesus, ang ating Diyos at Tagapaglitas, gaya ng nakasaad sa Mateo 7:24-27 ng Bibliya.

ULAN AT BAHA, IBINABALA NI JESUS: At upang maipaalala minsan pa sa ating lahat, naririto po ang sinabi ni Jesus sa Mateo 7:24-27: “… ang mga nakikinig ng aking mga salita at nagsasagawa ng mga ito ay matutulad sa taong matalino na nagtayo ng kanyang bahay sa ibabaw ng bato. Umulan, bumaha, at binayo ng hangin ang bahay na iyon, subalit hindi ito bumagsak.

“Pero ang mga nakikinig sa aking salita at hindi nagsasagawa ng mga ito ay matutulad sa hangal na nagtayo ng bahay sa buhanginan. Umulan, bumaha at binayo ng malakas na hangin ang bahay na iyon, at bumagsak at tuluyang nawasak…”
