FIGHT VS. BUDGET IN EDUCATION CUT FLAWED: The fight against budget cuts for state universities and colleges (SUCs) continues to ignore one basic flaw in the management of these government educational institutions. 

Incredibly, I wonder why the protesting students are not raising a howl against the practice of many officials of SUCs getting a part of the tuition and other fees paid annually by them as the officials’ “profit participation”.

WHY ARE SUC BRASS GETTING “PROFIT PARTICIPATION”? By any standard, anyone from SUCs getting additional allowances and financial perks as “profit participation” from the tuition paid by the poorest of the poor students is committing graft and corruption of the highest order.

Indeed, why should officials of SUCs, with the apparent permission and conspiracy of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), be allowed to be paid part of the tuition and other fees of poor students as their “profit participation” when, precisely, these tuition and other fees, already very minimal compared to those paid in private schools, could be devoted to improving school facilities instead?

TEACHING STUDENTS TO BECOME REBELS: Then, again, my spine bristles with reports that students, in the company of their teachers, are marching on the streets once again to protest the budget cuts. This kind of an activity is teaching our young students to become rebels, to publicly display disrespect for, and disobedience to, authorities.

Is there no other way by which the problem of budget cuts for state colleges and universities could be resolved? Must our students and our people resort to the streets every time there is something they don’t like? Must our problems be resolved by chaos and mob rule each time?

REBELLION AGAINST GOD: Cultivating disrespect for, and disobedience to, authorities actually mean encouraging rebellion against God, for, according to the Bible in its Romans 13:1-2, there is no authority that which was not established by God, and whoever is rebelling against the authorities is rebelling against God.

Nothing good is going to come out of this, the Bible says, because anyone fighting the authorities is bringing punishment and destruction upon himself.  In fact, disrespect for, and disobedience to, authorities invite God’s curses upon those who show such disrespect and disobedience.

Laban vs. budget cut sa edukasyon, dispalinghado

INSPIRASYON SA BUHAY: “… Hindi lamang iyon, kundi nadadakila din tayo sa ating mga pighati, sapagkat alam nating ang pamimighati ay nagdudulot ng katatagan; ang katatagan naman ay nagdudulot ng magandang ugali; at ang magandang ugali ay nagbibigay ng pag-asa…” (Roma 5:3-4, Bibliya).

LABAN VS. BUDGET CUT SA EDUKASYON, DISPALINGHADO: Ang isinusulong na laban sa pagbabawas ng gastusin o budget para sa mga state universities and colleges (SUCs) ay patuloy na nadidiskaril ng isang mabigat na kamalian sa pamamahala sa mga institusyong pang-edukasyon ng gobyerno.

Hindi kapani-paniwala pero, namamangha ako kung bakit ang mga nagpo-protestang mga estudyante ay di man lamang nagrereklamo laban sa pagkuha taon-taon ng mga opisyales ng SUCs ng bahagi ng mga matrikula at iba pang bayarin nila, o ng mga estudyante, bilang “profit participation” ng mga nasabing SUC officers.

BAKIT MAY “PROFIT PARTICIPATION” ANG MGA OPISYALES NG SUCs? Saan man ito sukatin, sinuman mula sa mga SUCs na kumukuha ng mga allowances at dagdag na kita sa pamamagitan ng “profit participation” mula sa mga tuition at iba pang bayarin ng mga mahihirap na estudyante ay nakagagawa ng mabigat na katiwalian at korapsiyon.

Tunay nga, bakit naman pinapayagan ang mga opisyales ng mga SUCs na makibahagi sa mga tuition at iba pang bayarin ng mga naghihikahos na estudyante, bilang “profit participation”, samantalang ang mga bayaring ito ay mababa na nga kumparado sa mga ibinabayad sa mga pribadong kolehiyo, at maaari sanang gamitin para mas humusay ang mga pasilidad ng mga SUCs?

PAGTUTURO SA MGA ESTUDYANTE PARA MAGING REBELDE: Ganundin, nanginginig ang aking likod sa mga ulat na ang mga estudyante, kasama ang kanilang mga guro, ay nagma-martsa na naman sa mga lansangan, upang protestahan ang budget cuts sa kanilang mga eskuwelahan. Ang ganitong pagkilos ay nagtuturo sa mga bata na maging rebelde, lumalaban ng lantaran sa mga autoridad.

Wala na bang ibang paraan upang solusyunan ang problema ng pagbabawas ng pondo para sa state colleges and universities? Kailangan ba ng ating mga estudyante  at ng sambayanan na lumakad muli sa mga lansangan kung mayroon silang di nagugustuhan? Kailangan bang ang mga suliranin natin ay nireresolba sa pamamagitan na lamang ng kaguluhan?

REBELYON LABAN SA DIYOS: Ang kawalan ng respeto at di pagsunod sa mga autoridad ay nangangahulugan ng pag-aalsa laban sa Diyos sapagkat, ayon sa Bibliya sa kanyang Roma 13:1-2, walang autoridad na hindi ang Diyos ang nagtatag, at sinumang lumalaban sa mga autoridad ay lumalaban sa Diyos. 

Walang buting idudulot ang gawaing ito, ayon sa Bibliya, sapagkat ang mga lumalaban sa mga autoridad ay nagdadala ng kaparusahan sa kanilang mga sarili. Sa totoo lang, ang kawalan ng respeto at di pagsunod sa mga autoridad ay nag-aanyaya ng mga sumpa ng Diyos.

MGA SUMPA ND DIYOS, IKA-LABINGTATLONG BAHAGI: Karagdagang mga sumpa ng Diyos, mula sa Deuteronomio 28:15-68 ng Bibliya: “… Kung hindi kayo susunod sa mga utos na nakasulat sa Aklat na ito, at hindi kayo sasamba sa Kanyang pangalan---ang Panginoong Diyos---padadalhan Niya kayo at ng inyong mga anak ng mga sakit na nakakamatay, ng mga matitinding mga kalamidad, at mga sakit na ikakamatay ninyo…”
