Philippine education, kulelat dahil sa lumang kurikulum

          Humihina ang edukasyon sa bansa lalo pagdating sa math at science dahil sa lumang kurikulum, inihayag ng isang University of the Philippines expert.

          Sa ginanap na forum, sinabi ni Dr. Merle C. Tan, director ng National Institute for Science and Mathematics Education Development (UP-NISMED), nangungulelat ang Philippine education lalo sa math at science dahil ginagamit pa rin ang kurikulum na ibinasura na ng United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) noong 1993.

“There seems to be a serious gap between science and mathematics education as it is practiced and the science and math education knowledge and skills needed for day-to-day living,” pahayag ni Dr. Tan.

Dahil dito, aniya, marapat lamang na gumawa ng karampatang hakbang ang Department of Education (DepEd) upang maplantsa ang nasabing problema.

Nabatid na kasalukuyang binabalangkas ng DepEd ang bago at komprehensibong kurikulum kung saan pangunahing nakatuon sa skills at academic performance ng mga istudyante.

Napag-alaman din na nais baguhin ng DepEd ang pananaw ng mga istudyante na imbes katakutang asignatura ang mathematics ay gagawing paborito sa pamamagitan ng iba’t ibang paraan gaya ng pag-integrate ito sa laro, sa pratikal na pamumuhay at sa makabagong teknolohiya gaya ng computer. Mac Cabreros
