Jan 20, 2011 - Thursday Meditation (You are Precious, Honored and Deeply Loved!)
It is so easy for us to be wrapped up and distracted by the lowliness of events, language, activities, problems, and all of the other negative stuff that goes on around us. What small thing can you do today to lift your own dignity to see yourself as God sees you - precious, honored, and deeply loved?

Thursday of the Second Week in Ordinary Time
Hebrews 7:25-8:6
Psalm 40:7-8, 8-9, 10, 17
Mark 3:7-12 Jesus withdrew with his disciples to the sea, and a great multitude from Galilee followed; also from Judea 8 and Jerusalem and Idume'a and from beyond the Jordan and from about Tyre and Sidon a great multitude, hearing all that he did, came to him. 9 And he told his disciples to have a boat ready for him because of the crowd, lest they should crush him; 10 for he had healed many, so that all who had diseases pressed upon him to touch him. 11 And whenever the unclean spirits beheld him, they fell down before him and cried out, "You are the Son of God." 12 And he strictly ordered them not to make him known.

Meditation by Don Schwager
Is there anything holding you back from giving yourself unreservedly to God? Jesus offered freedom to everyone who sought him out. Wherever Jesus went the people came to him because they had heard all the things he did. They were hungry for God and desired healing from their afflictions. In faith they pressed upon Jesus to touch him. As they did so power came from Jesus and they were healed. Even demons trembled in the presence of Jesus and acknowledged his true identity: You are the Son of God. When you hear God's word and consider all that Jesus did, how do you respond? With doubt or with expectant faith? With skepticism or with confident expectation? Ask the Lord the increase your faith in his saving power and grace.

"Lord Jesus Christ, you are the Son of God and the Savior of the world. Inflame my heart with a burning love for you and with an expectant faith in your saving power. Set me free from all that hinders me from drawing closer to you."

Supplementary Reading
God's Refrigerator Door

"Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine...you are precious in my eyes, and honored, and I love you..." -Isaiah 43:1 & 4

You ARE precious, honored, and deeply loved!

Last week I was speaking with a wonderful woman, Joanne, here at the church office. I mentioned to her that I was going home to paint that evening. (I oil paint one night a week). I was somewhat hesitant in my enthusiasm, as I was working on a piece that depicted a rainbow - a VERY subtle rainbow with barely visible hues of gentle, glowing color. Quite honestly, I wasn't looking forward to the pressure I always put on myself when I try to depict a challenge like this.

Joanne, in her positive way, encouraged me by saying, "Just enjoy yourself, Jim, and remember, you're painting for God and He's going to put your painting on His refrigerator door." WHAT A GREAT THOUGHT! My painting going on God's refrigerator door!

Proud parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, brothers and sisters, friends and neighbors ALL honor and express their love for their kids by placing their drawings, grades, compositions, pictures - everything they are or do - on their refrigerator doors. And, yes, it's true. YOU are precious, honored, and loved in God's eyes. Imagine, the Creator of the Universe...the God of ALL things, everything and everyone...and HE holds YOU in such high esteem!

Believe it...accept this amazing reality into your heart today - you are honored on God's refrigerator door!

Prayer:
(Please read this prayer aloud so you actually hear your voice say these words:) Lord, I often forget or just ignore how precious I really am in Your sight. I love You, and I thank You for loving me. I can hardly imagine ME...precious to YOU, the Most High! I accept this love and I am deeply honored. I will act like a child of the Most High. Amen. - Jim Coleman
