Here’s a solution to RP housing woes

BY ATTY. BATAS MAURICIO

LIFE’S INSPIRATIONS: “… The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction…” (Proverbs 1:7, the Holy Bible).

-ooo-

CAN FG ARROYO LEAVE UNNOTICED? If a man as important and as controversial and as big as former First Gentleman Jose Miguel “Mike”Arroyo could leave the country without being monitored by the Bureau of Immigration, something is really terribly wrong.

But then, other controversial personalities have left the country before without being noticed, haven’t they? So what else is new? At least, we are just being consistent in our incompetence---or, in our  tendency to favor the rich and the mighty.

-ooo-

SALUTARY EFFECT OF RUNNING AFTER GRAFTERS: There is a big salutary effect to all the attempts of the Aquino government to go after former President Arroyo, her husband Mike and their children, and the other officials of the Arroyo government, for alleged misdeeds and wrongdoings.

It is telling those who are in power now that they must discharge their duties and responsibilities well, and not engage in any corruption themselves, for, after their terms shall have ended five years from now, they, too, would be subjected to the indignities they are heaping on the Arroyos.

The wranglings and dissensions notwithstanding, this should signal a renewal of sorts among politicians and top level bureaucrats, inclining them to avoid abuses and corrupt practices, which can only bring a better life for all.

ELENA LIM HOLDS SOLUTION TO RP HOUSING WOES: One would think that Elena Lim of the Solid Group of Companies should already be taking it easy with the successes of her businesses these days, what with her advancing age, but it would seem she remains youthful and filled with vigor in pursuing yet another flagship project of her conglomerate aimed at helping the Filipino.

Last Thursday, before a highly select group of Rotarians from the Rotary Club of Intramuros of Rotary International District 3810, Lim unveiled “My Home”, a housing venture using modular, pre-fab steel technology that will provide decent houses and residential units at greatly reduced, and hence highly affordable, prices.

Lim showed me and my fellow Rotarians samples of the “My Home” houses at her sprawling manufacturing plant along the East Service Road of the South Luzon Expressway, and were we stunned to see that a handsome six-bedroom up and down house, on a land area of only 30 square meters, could cost only about P700,000.00, and could be put up in about two weeks!

Lim said a 20 square meter house complete with a toilet and bath could cost only about P200,000.00 more or less, and could be built in---hold your breath---just a day! Indeed, this could be the solution to the housing problem of Filipinos, with Elena Lim’s motto: “it will help the Filipino”.

ZUBIRI RESIGNATION BROUGHT MORE PROBLEMS: The resignation of Sen.
