Wow: world debate Olympics in Phl

WOW: WORLD DEBATE OLYMPICS TO BE HELD IN PHL: Here’s good news for intellectuals and for tourism as well: the World Universities Debate Championship, considered as the Olympics of debating, will be held in the Philippines on December 27, 2011 to January 4, 2012, to coincide with the centennial celebrations of the De La Salle University, the host of the event.

An Internet dispatch by Patrick Pantaleon quoting a message by Dino De Leon, convenor of De La Salle Worlds, and Fr. Gabriel Romeo Ferriols Pavico, project coordinator De La Salle Worlds 2012, says more than 400 teams from 70 nations will come to participate in the debate championship, considered as one of the largest academic gatherings in the world.

Interested parties may email dinorm58@yahoo.com and patrickdpantaleon_2005@yahoo.com  or call 0917 592 5592 or 524 4611 local 376 for details more details.

CONGRATS OGIE AND REGINE: Congratulations to singers-performers Ogie Alcasid and Regine Velasquez (a neighbor of mine at a row of townhouses in Diliman, Quezon City when she was not super-rich yet) who got married in Batangas last Wednesday, December 22, 2010. Our unsolicited advice: put God in your marriage so it will not go the way of most show business marriages.

Remember how Genesis 2:24 of the Holy Bible describes marriage: “That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh…”

PROCLAMATION OF THE KINGDOM OF GOD: “Proclamation of the Kingdom of God” is the third mystery in the Mysteries of Light, or Luminous Mysteries, of the Holy Rosary of the Roman Catholic Christians, and an account of it is found in Matthew 4:17, Mark 1:14 and Luke 4:15 of the Bible.
In Matthew 4:17, the story is told that when Jesus heard that John the Baptist had been put in prison, He returned to Galilee, and then lived in Capernaum, by the lake in Zebulun and Naphtali, to fulfill what the prophet Isaiah said
“From that on, Jesus began to preach,” the same Biblical verse says, and what Jesus started to preach was this: “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near.
In Mark 1:14, an almost identical account is found, thus: “After John was put in prison, Jesus went into Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God. `The time has come’, he said. `The kingdom of God is near. Repent and believe the good news.’”

Wow: world debate olympics sa Pinas

Trillanes, ok in renouncing coups

December 22, 2010
BY ATTY. BATAS MAURICIO

TRILLANES RIGHT IN RENOUNCING COUPS: Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV is right in renouncing coups or rebellions in fighting graft and corruption and other anomalies in government, for the Bible, in its Romans 13:1-2, prohibits fighting the authorities, who, the Bible says, were established by God. Carry on, Mr. Senator, do your job under the guidance of God, and you will surely do more for country and people.

Garcia plea shortchanged someone?

December 20, 2010
BY ATTY. BATAS MAURICIO

SOMEBODY GOT SHORTCHANGED BY THE GARCIA PLEA? Did the Ombudsman---and the Sandiganbayan subsequently---have any basis in approving the plea bargaining made by former Maj. Gen. Carlos Garcia, who is accused of plunder before the graft court for allegedly pocketing some P300 million in AFP funds when he was still its comptroller?

Or the Ombudsman---and the Sandiganbayan---did not have any such basis, thereby justifying the tounge-lashing they are now getting from ...

Tuguegarao fire victims: read Bible for them

December 19, 2010
BY ATTY. BATAS MAURICIO

LET US READ THE BIBLE FOR TUGUEGARAO VICTIMS: Before the fingerpointing, I enjoin everyone to please pray first and foremost for the souls of those who perished in the Tuguegarao City December 19, 2010 fire that killed 15 people, so God will forgive their sins, bless their souls, and accept them to heaven, for even if they have died, we can still pray for them, and read to them Bible verses.

This is what 1 Peter 4:6 of the Holy Bible says: “…For this is the reas...

By: Bobot Apit

Dec 18, 2010 - Saturday Meditation (True Gifts!)
While parties, presents and laughter are also gifts from God, we should not lose sight that only a privileged few enjoy them in this world.  It bears repeating that the true gifts of Christmas are peace, justice, and love for everyone.  It is my prayer that during this advent season, the anticipation that God rescues, renews, restores, and redeems us through the birth of Jesus is my heartfelt focus.

SIMBANG GABI, A TIMELESS TRADITION

CHICAGO (jGLi) – My friends out west in the warmer climes of California would often tell me to get out of the wintry Windy City and come to the Golden State to become their neighbors. But I often tell them I may someday soon.

And this feeling of dreaming a balmy weather becomes more acute during the Christmas season. Especially when I am reminded of the Dawn Mass (Simbang Gabi) that kicks off the 16-day wait to u...
