Aurora Rep. Angara, TOYM 2010

December 13, 2010
BY ATTY. BATAS MAURICIO

CONGRATS, AURORA REP. SONNY ANGARA: I wish to heartily congratulate Aurora Rep. Juan Edgardo Angara, a fellow member of the Sigma Rho Fraternity of the UP College of Law, for having been chosen as one of the TOYM or Ten Outstanding Young Men Awardees for 2010.

An announcement at the Internet e-group of the Sigma Rho Fraternity says the award given to Rep. Angara, son of Sen. Edgardo J. Angara, by the Philippine Jaycees (or Junior Chamber International) came 22 years after another Sigma Rhoan was given the same award.

The list in the announcement said other Sigma Rhoans who received TOYM awards were lawyers Elvi John Asuncion (Law and Legal Aid, 1988), Francisco I. Chavez (Law, 1986), Simeon Datumanong (Public Administration, 1974), Luis Villafuerte (Investment Banking, 1973), and Rafael Salas Jr. (Public Administration, 1962).

The TOYM awards have been given by the Jaycees for past 51 years to individuals “who have shown selfless dedication for their work, passion for excellence and compassion towards the communities they belong.”

LIFE OF JESUS RECOUNTED IN THE MYSTERIES OF THE ROSARY: A keen study of the mysteries of the Holy Rosary will show that each of the mystery recited in praying it constitutes one important aspect of the life of Jesus.

In the Joyful Mysteries, for instance, what is recounted are the following events in the life of the Christ: Annunciation, Visitation of Elizabeth by Mary, Birth of Christ, Presentation of the Child Jesus in the Temple, and Finding of the Child Jesus in the Temple.

In the Mysteries of Light, we find the following: Baptism of Jesus, Wedding at Cana, Proclamation of the Kingdom of God, Transfiguration and Institution of the Holy Eucharist through the Last Supper.

PRAYING THE ROSARY REMINDS US THAT JESUS IS GOD AND SAVIOR: The Sorrowful Mysteries narrate these events in the life of Jesus: Agony in the Garden, Scourging at the Pillar, Crowning of Jesus with Thorns, Carrying of the Cross, and Crucifixion and Death of Christ.

Finally, the Glorious Mysteries make an account of the Resurrection, the Ascention, Descent of the Holy Spirit, Assumption of Mary, and the Coronation of Mary as Queeon of Heaven and Earth.

Anyone who prays the Holy Rosary, therefore, gets to remember Jesus Christ and is reminded all over again of His status as our God and Savior. Jesus is God, because that is what He said in John 10:30. He is Savior because that is what 1 Timothy 1:15 says.

MMDA must stop out of town meets of mayors

December 13, 2010
BY ATTY. BATAS MAURICIO

MMDA SHOULD STOP OUT OF TOWN MEETINGS AND SEMINARS: There ought to be a law that will prohibit local government units from conducting meetings and conferences, and even seminars and fora, among their officers and employees and even among their barangay leaders, in places outside their territorial jurisdiction.

I am proposing this after two Metro Manila mayors were reported to have brought their employees and their barangay officials to resorts outside of the metropo...

Palafox’s faux pas (pardon the pun) or shall we believe this guy again?
By Jason de Asis

SENATE OFFICE, December 10, 2010-First impression is lasting indeed. Or is it really so? Perhaps it depends on whose person who you are casting your impression with.

I am talking here of Felino Palafox Jr. - Jun – for short who strikes me at first as a respected architect and urban planner until well, lately when he committed blunders left and right and bellyached like a crybaby as though a kid whose...

The role of public administration in modern society

What role should public administration play in this modern society?

In answering this question, the best way is to know the fundamental governance principles that public administration is a result of the collective consent of the citizens to be governed and the fact that the world has gone too modern.

The first among the principles is expressed as “public office is a public trust.”

With this, every decision or action resulting from p...
