Laying of hands and praying assure safety

BY ATTY. BATAS MAURICIO

LIFE’S INSPIRATIONS: “…Then Peter and John placed their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit…” (Acts 8:17, the Holy Bible).

PLUNDER RAPS IN AGRI FUND MESS, A MERE GIMMICK: It was pure and simple “papogi”, or shameless maneuvering if you may, to gain good mileage, and therefore, soften up the public and our Senators who will try Ombudsman Merceditas Gutierrez in the impeachment case against her, starting next week.

That, to me, best describes the decision of the Office of the Ombudsman Friday, April 15, 2011, to file at this time plunder charges against former Agriculture Secretary Chito Lorenzo and former Underscretary Jocelyn “Joc-joc” Bolante and several others in relation to the so-called “P728 million agriculture fund mess”.

The fact is that the 134-page joint resolution of the Ombudsman which directed the filing of the non-bailable plunder charges inexplicably did not even tackle the criminal liability of mayors and congressmen who, records showed, received millions and millions of this P728 million, and yet clearly did not use them for agriculture. Why?

SC UPHOLDS CASE VS. PARTY LIST GROUP: So the public may know, the newspaper Daily Tribune ran this story on April 9, 2011: “A ruling by the Supreme Court upheld the jurisdiction of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) over a case involving party-list group whose qualification is being challenged for being an alleged front for a religious group.

“In its decision dated March 22, the court en banc dismissed `for lack of merit’ the petition of the Alliance for Barangay Concerns (ABC) and its representative James Marty Lim (ABC contested the decision of Comelec to hear a disqualification case against it, saying only the House Electoral Tribunal has the right to do so).

“His group’s qualification had been challenged by journalist-lawyer Melanio Mauricio Jr. with the Comelec in May 2010, claiming that the group is a front for the religious group Children of God International, popularly known as Ang Dating Daan of TV preacher Eliseo Soriano…”

LAYING OF HANDS AND PRAYING ASSURE SAFETY: One of the greatest problems of parents and of anyone else who love and value their husbands and wives, children, their father and mother, and their brothers and sisters and other relatives, is making sure that they are safe all day through, what with evil permeating everyone and everything, and even everywhere, nowadays.

The news is full of reports of men and women being waylaid even for the flimsiest reasons, and very often we find ourselves at a despairing loss as to how to be assured of our loved one’s safety, even if we are not beside them all the time.

The thing to do is to place our hands on our relatives and pray for them. In Matthew 19:13-14 ang Acts 8:17 of the Bible, we are told that Jesus and Peter and John placed theirs hands on children and on people, and prayed for them, calling on the Holy Spirit by doing so.
