Rotary Int’l historical first?

UNSOLICITED ADVICE ON MUSLIM SUB-STATE: Here’s one piece of unsolicited advice for the Aquino government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) on the issue of a Muslim sub-state being created in Mindanao: whatever the proposals and counter-proposals maybe, all of them should already be published and laid bare before the public, here and now.
This is to avoid speculations and assumptions which may yet derail the negotiations. The fact is that even now, emotions are already running high because published reports are saying that the present coverage of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM), which will be the basis for the Muslim sub-state, would be expanded even further to cover more provinces, cities and municipalities.
While this may sound great for our Muslim brothers in the South, many Christians and those who are opposed to being placed under Muslim rule, even only on a sub-state basis, will surely not like it. This will create more problems. The wise thing therefore is to publicize everything now so full discussions could be had on the issue.

ROTARY INTERNATIONAL HISTORICAL FIRST? Pardon my saying so for I am appearing to be self-serving on the matter, but I wish to announce that the Rotary Club of Intramuros-Manila of District 3810 of Rotary International and the Rotary Club of Pokhara-Nepal, under District 3292, made a historic first last Thursday, August 11, 2011.
A joint meeting of sorts was made by the two clubs, even if they were separated by several thousand miles of land and water. The members of the Rotary Club of Intramuros were at the Ilustrado Restaurant in Intramuros, Manila, the regular venue of their weekly meetings, while the members of the Rotary Club of Pokhara were in Pokhara, Nepal.
The joint meeting was made possible by an Voice-Over-Internet-Protocol call, during which the proceedings of the Rotary Club of Intramuros---including the speech of the day’s guest speaker, an Australian-based Pakistani pushing for providing loans to the poor so they could engage in business---were beamed to the officers and members of the Rotary Club of Pokhara, led by their President Rajendra Ligal.
President Ligal and myself, as the ChangeMaker President of the Rotary Club of Intramuros for Rotary Year 2011-2012, agreed to hold more joint meetings, via the Internet, to discuss the execution of a sister-club agreement, and to carry out joint projects for the poor and the needy of the Philippines and Nepal.

Makasaysayang joint meeting ng Rotary Clubs
INSPIRASYON SA BUHAY: “…Sa anghel ng iglesiya sa Laodicea, isulat ito: Ito ang Salita ng Amen, ang tapat at totoong saksi, ang tagapamahala ng mga nilalang ng Diyos. Naririto ako! Nakatayo sa harap ng pintuan at kumakatok. Kung ang nakakarinig sa aking tinig ay magbubukas ng pinto, papasok ako at kasama nila akong kakain…” (Pahayag 3:14, 20, Bibliya).

PAYO SA ISYU NG MUSLIM SUB-STATE: Naririto ang isang payo, bagamat di-hinihiling, para sa gobyernong Aquino at Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), sa isyu ng pagtatatag ng isang Muslim sub-state sa Mindanao: lahat ng mga panukala ng magkabilang panig ay dapat maisa-publiko na agad, ngayon na.
Nais kasi natin na maiwasan ang mga ispekulasyon at mga haka-haka na baka sumira pa sa isinusulong na negosasyon. Sa totoo lang, nagkakaroon na naman ng alingasngas sa magkabilang panig sapagkat may mga nadi-diyaryong ulat na ang kasalukuyang nasasakupan ng Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) ay lalawakan pa para sa itatatag na Muslim sub-state.
Bagamat magiging maganda sa pagdinig ng mga kapatid nating Muslim ang balitang ito, maraming mga Kristiyano at maraming mga tumututol na mapasa-ilalim ng pamamahala ng mga Muslim, kahit bilang sub-state lamang, ang hindi magugustuhan ito. Magdadala ito ng mas maraming problema. Makakabuti, kung ganun, na ilabas na ng magkabilang panig sa ngayon ang kani-kanilang mga panukala at mapag-usapan na agad.

MAKASAYSAYANG JOINT MEETING NG MGA ROTARY CLUBS: Ipagpaumanhin po ninyo at magyayabang lang ako, pero nais ko pong i-anunsiyo dito na ang Rotary Club of Intramuros-Manila ng District 3810 ng Rotary International, at ang Rotary Club of Pokhara-Nepal, sa ilalim ng District 3292, ay magkatuwang na gumawa ng kasaysayan noong Huwebes, Agosto 11, 2011.
Nagkaroon sila ng joint meeting noong araw na iyon, bagamat pinaghihiwalay sila ng libo-libong milya ng lupa at tubig. Ang mga kasapi ng Rotary Club of Intramuros ay nandoon sa Ilustrado Restaurant sa Intramuros, Manila---ang lugar ng kanilang regular weekly meeting---samantalang ang mga kasapi ng Rotary Club of Pokhara ay nandodoon sa Pokhara, Nepal.
Ang joint meeting na ito ay naisakatuparan sa pamamagitan ng Voice-Over-Internet-Protocol, kung saan ang pagpupulong ng Rotary Club of Intramuros---kasama na ang talumpati ng guest speaker na Pakistani na naka-base na sa Australia ukol sa pagpapautang sa mga mahihirap---ay ipinakikita ng parang sa telebisyon sa mga opisyales at kasapi ng Rotary Club of Pokhara, sa pangunguna ng kanyang President Rajendra Ligal.
Nagkasundo si President Ligal at ako bilang ChangeMaker President ng Rotary Club of Intramuros sa Rotary Year 2011-2012, na magdaos ng marami pang mga joint meetings, sa pamamagitan ng Internet, upang mapag-usapan namin ang pagtatatag ng mga clubs namin bilang sister clubs, at ang pagtutulungan para sa mga proyektong tutulong sa mga mahihirap sa Pilipinas at Nepal.
