CAMP AQUINO, Tarlac City, February 15, 2011-A member of the Executive Committee and Political Bureau of the CPP/NPA’s Central Committee was arrested by joint AFP/PNP operatives by virtue of standing warrants of arrest for murder and rebellion of Alan Jazmines, Alias Ka Dex, Tomas and Arthur in the underground movement, in a safe house at Villa Aurea, Barangay Subic, Baliuag, Bulacan last valentine’s day.

The thirteen (13) warrants were issued by Judge Rodolfo Garduque of RTC Branch 63, Calauag, Quezon for murder and Branch 59 in Lucena City for rebellion.

Jazmines’ arrest was with the support and cooperation of the villagers residing in the said place who provided vital information that led to his location by the elements of the Bulacan PPO, 702nd Infantry Brigade under Colonel Felicito Virgilio Trinidad Jr and other AFP operatives.

Lieutenant General Gaudencio Pangilinan, Commander of the Northern Luzon Command (NOLCOM) said the arrest of Jazmines shows that indeed, crime does pay.

“Jazmines claimed that he was covered by JASIG or the Joint Agreement on Security and Immunity Guarantee as member of the Communist Party of the Philippines/National Democratic Front/New People’s Army (CNN) negotiating panel,”  Pangilinan said, saying that the role of the AFP/PNP is to implement the law and arrest those with warrants of arrest.  However, they will submit to the decision of legal luminaries in determining whether Jazmines ought to be released notwithstanding the criminal charges against him.

He assured the public that the rule of law and respect for human rights was fully observed during the conduct of arrest.

“While this may be seen as an operation before the implementation of the Suspension of Offensive Military Operations (SOMO) as agreed prior to the peace talks, the apprehending authorities strongly believed that no violation was committed in the said agreement since this is not a military operation but a mere police operation wherein the AFP troops were just called upon to complement the arresting PNP unit,” Pangilinan said.
