800 villagers benefited from the Army and LGU of Abra

TINEG, Abra, January 22, 2011–At least 800 residents in the hinterland of two (2) barangays in Abra town benefited in the form of medical and dental mission, information dissemination and relief goods distribution in the joint outreach program of 41st Infantry Battalion and 503rd Infantry Brigade of the Philippine Army and the Local Government Units of Tineg in two (2) days mission.
 
The group headed by Dr. Antonio Valera from the Abra provincial hospital and Mayor Edwin Crisologo braced the three (3) hour bumpy ride with army soldiers towards the said barangay despite the difficult roads and terrain going through Barangay Caganayan last Monday morning.

Mayor Crisologo and Ltc Prudencio G Dimas, head of the military contingent distributed relief goods to the 289 families after their medical mission wherein the said relief goods were earlier turned-over by the ABS-CBN Foundation for the indigenous families in the areas of 503rd Bde.

The Provincial Dental Team also distributed free toothpastes and toothbrushes for the residents while the Army group conducted a dialogue with the Barangay folks regarding peace and order followed by a film showing watched by 250 residents.

The following day, January 18, the troops led by Col Danny Pabunan, the Commander of 503rd Brigade, continued the distribution of relief supplies for the residents at Sitio Tapayen, Barangay Alaoa, Tineg, Abra as one of the highlights of the DSWD’s Launching of 4P’s (Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program) held at the said locality.

At least 200 residents benefited from the said relief goods distribution. It was noted that Governor Eustaquio P Bersamin and some prominent heads of national and local government agencies were present during the said program.

The programs, jointly facilitated by the army troopers with the other stakeholders such as Abra Provincial Government, Tineg LGU, Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD-CAR), aim to promote the new AFP’s Internal Peace and Security Plan “Bayanihan” which advocates convergence of efforts. It is also the fulfillment of President Aquino’s pronouncements of Good Governance and delivery of basic services. (Jason de Asis)
